box size for 10" kicker comp

I've got a 10" cvr and was trying to match it to the right size box. the specs recommend .8 to 3.0 for sealed enclosures so I was thinking of going with a 1.25 sealed but it seems like it would be too big for just one sub. I was thinking that I may gain more volume with that larger box but may lose some responsiveness. I listen to hard rock and alternative.
