box port help

o.k. guys i have a old box that i wanted to try ported. the box is 7.02 cuft after subs displacement. i have a old set of kicker comp 15's that i put in them. i also had a 8" sonotube laying around so i used that. i figured the port would have to be around 14.5" for tuning in the 31-33hz area. it doesnt sound right at all. it sounds like a speaker is out of phase but its not. is it to much port? i can take that port out and try some 4" ports or something else. my two jbl gto 10's kill this in a 1.4 cuft sealed box to give you an idea on the output.
