Box placement

at first i had my subs/port facing the trunk with the box pushed up against the back seat so basically the box was blocking everything from getting through since the only way anything can get through is the trunk opening in the back seat.

so last night i pulled the box forward a little bit so air could get past the box and through the trunk opening and i could feel a little bit of a breeze so i figured if i turned the box around and had the sub facing right through the trunk opening id get more air flowing through. well i was right about that part but its not as loud as when it was facing the other way.. why is this?

and what if i were to seal the box off from the rest of trunk.. right now the sub is going right through the trunk opening and the port is to the left and blowing about 6 inches away right at the back seat but theres room for the air to move to the back part of trunk instead of straight through the trunk opening.. could i just jam towels in all the open areas? i know thats sloppy but no1 will notice... or would towels not make a difference? what else could i use?

another thing i could do is put the box back to where i originally had it which was sub/port facing trunk.. and then pull out the rear speakers so there are just holes there so air can get through them.. but that might look sloppy too with just holes there..

what do you guys think i should do?

because you are placeing the sub and port close to a boundry insted of towards the middle of the car doing so will lessen canclelation. How ever most trunk cars will get loudest buy firing subs and port forward and sealing off the trunk compleatly from the cabin. If you need some tips on getting a trunkl loud thors hammer is around a 150 with 2 tens im sure he will help ya out.

i think if i just turn it back around so my subs/port are facing the trunk and then give room for air to get around my box through the ski pass ill be set.

its just not as loud facing into the cabin thru the ski-pass.. sealing it off from the trunk would probably help but thats too much trouble to go through

then port back sub back would be best,, im trying to convince my friend to seal his trunk off to gain that extra bit of out put.he's got his facing back right now too.

wait u want him to seal his trunk with the subs still facing back? so basically just cut out some extra space?

port facing trunk, placed 4 inches from the back of trunk. if your still not happy, buy better woofers.
... no.

It will be different as per car, and per listener.

The general rule is to let the port go no closer than 1/2 the port width to whatever it's facing. However, you can get a louder response by altering that distance and, basically, extending the port.

But, many people have gotten a greater response by facing the port toward the side. If you face it toward the passenger side, the drivers side will get louder, as vice versa. (By louder, I mean TEH DBZ WILL INCREASE. It by no way means that it will be audibly louder.)

I personally like subs forward firing into the cab, port through rear deck, and the trunk sealed from the cab, so it minimizes the space that the subs have to pressurize, and basically making your car a direct 4th order BP and putting YOU in the chamber. It makes me giddy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif:veryhapp:

But to find your favorite, you have to just keep rebuilding and testing.
