box painting

truckbed liner will give it texture will it not? but if that's what you're looking for why sand it out?
if you want something pretty slick looking, go to a body shop or paint shop and ask them to mix you up a quart of some paint with some color flop in it. kind of like pearl but much more drastic and better looking //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/imo.gif.3a57bcc70a4835dc53e86ffae1a0b041.gif a quart should be more than enough unless you have a really big box.

what do i know i'm just a painter.
lol good idea though!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

im curious, if you take your time and sand and primer can you get it as smooth as like a fiberglass box?
you mean like how people paint their fiberglass sub boxes to match their interior and what not?

yeah they prime it and sand it.

if you take your time, you could make any paint job look good. i saw an article a while back where i guy painted his nice muscle car with Rustoleum. and to top if off, he used a roller instead of a spray gun. he just did a shitload of wetsanding. iirc he did like 14 coats total, and wetsanded inbetween every coat.

ok koo, and ya thats what i meant, you see so many fiberglass boxes so smooth, i was wondering if you can get your mdf box that smooth

yes you can and with a lot less work. i haven't worked with fiberglass myself, but in all the writeups and videos of it i've seen, you pretty much have to cover the entire thing with bondo to get it smooth.

if your box is built nice, and it's pretty much flush all around, you might have a few dents to fill with bondo but that's it. if you can wait about 2 minutes i can go snap a picture of my false bottom i just painted at work the other day, which was made out of MDF...

all the specs are dust. not defects in the paint.

$50 paint job ftw.

Rustoleum Hammered metal looks pretty good. Comes in a few colors too. But you have to get the can (liquid). Without either proper sealing on edges, or an assload of primer (or both), mdf just soaks up can after can of spray paint.
