The thing is, Id like to port it, but to tune it, dont I need to know the exact volume of the box? Mine will be made of some MDF and some fiberglass so the volume would be impossible to calculate using simple math. So should I just build the biggest box I can then throwa port on it. Or should I just go with the simplicity of a sealed enclosure. I want deep smooth accurate bass response that can get loud with high volume. I m gonna run one 13.5 inch w7 with 1000 watts going to it. Any advice is good.

Also, is it true that the bigger the box the better?

to answer the ? of bigger the box the better i would say to some extent bigger is better. i am saying maybe a cube or 2 bigger than the specs may help but like 6-10 cubes is kinda unnecessary. my 3 cents

no....bigger box does not equal better. dont just build a box and throw a port in it and not tune it to the right frequency. id say you should just go ahead and seal it. it will still be plenty loud and maintain its SQ which it is known for. IF you do want to port it...you need to know the box size and volume.

that all depends on the amount of power you are sending. box size and amount of power need to be figured out together.

so if i do sealed how many cubes do i want? also, if i decide to do prted, i could estimate the size but i could be off by up to a half of a cube, so would a half cube error really mess up the port tuning?

this could be a long answer but, what exactly is tuning the box? i understand that its find the perfect frequency at which the box resonates to its max potential...am i right or way off?

yeah a half cube is a lot.....i would glasss the inside as well and then fill it with water to get the volume....you might be able to use something dry that us small....like rice ir something to give you a better estimate.......but that migght be expensive, water is yout best bet,

ive heard of doing that before but the box will be built inside the car, i think...depending on how big it has to be. so filling it with something will be hard. anyway, lets say i build the box and fill it with water and it is exactly X cubes. how do i know what size port to put in?
