Box for IDW's

I don't need one of these
Ok so I paid for the IDW's and now I'm thinking about a box. I was going to fiberglass but it's WAY too much work and too much money for now so I'm going to do the ole' square MDF box. My main question is if I install them into the same box I'd like to seal the two side off from each other. Do I only need 1 peice of 3/4" MDF sealing off the two sides or should I used two... Oh and each sub needs 1.5cu ft sealed....

Don't even use a box.

Run them IB.

You'll want well more than 1.5cuft per sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif They'll have a complete lack of low end in an enclosure that small. They are basically pro-audio subwoofers.

And, high efficiency + small box = no low end at all.

IB or atleast a good 8 - 10cuft is what you'll really want for them.

Maybe 2cu ft sealed for "autophile".... I dunno 8-10cu ft is unreasonable...
You won't think that once you use them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Seriously, regardless of what that sheet says...they are large enclosure woofers. Just look at the efficiency...that right there should have been the indicator for you. High efficiency = large box...if you still want any semblence of low frequency extension. There is a reason not one person using them is using them in a 1.5cuft enclosure....it simply doesn't work well. They are IB or very large enclosure subwoofers. There is no getting around Hoffman's Iron Law. Period.

You will definitely get sub-par results if you try using them in a 1.5cuft or 2cuft enclosure. Run them IB or in an 8cuft-10cuft enclosure, and you'll be in business. Otherwise, don't even bother with them.

Also notice the two posts in your other thread....SPLthunder recommended IB, and Audiolife recommended IB or "a big ol box".

They aren't small box woofers. Plain and simple.

Honestly...sounds to me like you went after the wrong subs for your situation.

You are correct! and yes you'll probably end up buying them from me someday but I can get creative //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif :naughty:

IB in a daily driver SUV? hmmmmm....

just wall off behind the rear seats...... rearview mirrors are for *****s anyway. u dont need to see behind u just back up slowly intill u hit something then go forward //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

haha... you could do it with thick plexiglass!?!? it would make for a very interesting install.... I'd do it but I'd have to destroy an awful lot of the original interior...

I should just make a box that fills the entire cargo area flat with the rear seats... then I could install spots to attach casters in case I need to remove the box for some reason //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif hehehe it'd be a two man job to remove the box and I'd have to get a new rear spring pack (90-95 4runners always sag on their own anyways) but hey it'd sound **** nice... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif hmm I'll take some measurements and see how much airspace I could get doing that...

that would be fun.... hmm actually not a bad idea... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I've learned my lesson on destroying interiors though... if I could find a way to temporarily seal the plexiglass to the surronding interior I'd do it...
