Hi,

Have a '97 Dodge Ram extended cab. Looking for a box to mount subs in (haven't picked them out yet, depends on the mounting depth etc).

I found some front-fire boxes that fit under the rear seat, but I don't want that, I want down-fire. I found some single 12" enclosures from Q-Logic that act like a center rear console, but I don't want that either, I want two 10's. I'm not looking to shake the neighborhood, blow out my windows, or win any competitions. Just want to fill in the sound, but, get the most of my money at the same time.

So far I've found a box from MTX that will fit two 10's, has a max mounting depth of 4.98", and costs $350 empty. Full one comes with two Thunder4500's, cost is $450. I don't think I want $50 subs in a $350 enclosure though.

MTX has the same box w/ subs, amp'd, for $650:

I don't think I'm too keen on those MTX subs though.

JL Audio has a box with two 10W1v2-8 subwoofers in a sealed enclosure. 300 watt power handling. Wired for 4 ohm mono. I'm not sure of the price on this one, haven't seen it anywhere.

On closer inspection of those JL 10W1's, they look pretty wimpy. If I'm going to spend the money, then I want something that's got the potential to hit more than this.

Sensitivity: 84.53 dB

RMS Power Range : 150 Watts

Peak Power Handling: 300 Watts

Impedance: 4 Ohm

ProBoxRocks has one that will fit two 10's, and has 5.5" of mounting depth. "Our enclosures are made of 5/8 grade A MDF, machined with CNC computer routers, and topped off with a black lacquer textured finish that's tough as nails. They are designed to load the bass in a vehicle to give extended wave length and maximum performance to the subwoofers." Looks like these boxes go for about $220. 1/2" more mounting depth than the MTX box.

The other option is local shops have generic non-name custom boxes that fit, for in the $150 range, but I think they're particle board it looks like. Should I stay away from those?

The big issue I'm running into with all these boxes is the lack of mounting depth, 5-5.5" is pretty shallow; but I'll deal with that later.

Let me know what you suggest, or other options to look into, thanks! (And yes, I searched what Dodge Truck guys are doing already).

i would go with a custom made enclosure, you would get allot more enclosure internal volume, if you get the bottom of the enclosure built out fiberglass. i belive pioneer came out with some shallow mount subs that handle like 300wrms each. i had played with one of the 12" model about a year ago and was not dissapointed by the amount of bass they put out. very clean and decently loud. if you can fit 2 12" pioneer i would go with that instead of 2 10" subs that handle less power.

I have the same setup...The MTX Thunderform. I took those crappy speakers out and put in the Phoenix Golds...Sounds really good...I get alot of compliments...and its an easy install...no cutting etc...after 3 years I just blew a sub...looking for some new ones now.
