box for 2 tc5200 18's

having trouble modeling this box up... when i enter the box i want into winisd (box is 6.5 cubes tuned at 34 hz) the graph looks horrid (peaky as hell) plus it never gets over the 0db line... now i know the graph is a free air representation (and theoretical at that), but it does not look good.... any suggestions?

i agree, but its what was recommended by kyle of tc sounds...
originally i wanted 8 cubes, with 200 sq in of port, he told me to shrink both those numbers down....
He might b talkin bout per sub....cuz 6.5ft3 for 2 18s seems insanely small...

That sub will not model up well because it is really optimized for ported enclosures. Many subs won't model well for that reason but the 5200 goes to an extreme with it. Some subs that are optimized for sealed enclosures will also not model up too well.

what I remember is the higher the motor strength, the less space you need to have a flat response, and the bigger the box, the bigger the peak, where as the smaller the motor force, you need a bigger box to have flat response, a good example; look at the difference with tc3000 and tc5200 box rec and their motor force (bl)...

Just go with what TC recommend, they made the sub, they know the sub more than anyone else...

http://www.tcsounds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=847 - no- thats for the pair.... and immacomputer- what are you talking about? i am trying to model up a ported enclosure....

I know you are... What I'm saying is that you cannot rely on the graphs that the program gives you. Because it has such great motor strength, it will model very awkward with a spike around tuning. If you get a flat graph, it will look very low. The sub's output will not really reflect this behavior though.

sounds good. now- can someone tell me if this box looks correct-

designed in winisd. box is 7.15 cubes, with a port that is 5"x20"x17.8". total box volume after figuring in port and driver displacement (which is .16cuft each) of 8.48 cubic foot. is this tuned to 34 hz? (the desired tuning...) thanks, to anyone who can help me! also- is 100 sq in. of port going to be enough?

The size of the enclosure it just fine. Should have more port IMO. What kind of power are you going to put to it?

more port....i had more than that with one 18 in 6.5 cubes
The 4hp has alot more motor than the Q. It doesnt need that large of an enclosure. Someone had one in a 7 cube box tuned to 37hz and unloaded the sub and practically destroyed it. He was giving it 3k. Like i said before the enclosure size is just fine, but port area should be around 150 ish
