Box for 1 12" on 1kw

Looking to build a box for a single 12" i have laying around, told a friend of mine i could outdo his 2 12"s on 500w with just one and he doesnt believe me, lol. I tested it sealed in about 1.75 cubes and its already louder than his i just want it to move some air and get the lows out better. Aiming for a peak of around 38-40hz. I have a basic box built with no cutout or port, just a 3 cf sealed box, gross airspace. The sub is a powerbass something, dual 4ohm, rated for 250w. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have 4" and 6" tubes i can use for ports, i was thinking just throw a 6" port in the box, sidefiring itd need to be 20" long and would get me around 32-34hz IIRC.

Whats everyone think? What kind of box design would you do?

3ft^3 before any displacement-.2ft^ for sub

-.35ft^3 for port

--------------------

2.45ft^3

20" long 6" port = ~36hz tuning

This is assuming no bracing.
Probably wont add any bracing as the box is pretty small/long. each panel is 12" high, by i forget how long, 36" i think. Still gotta figure out the specs for sure.

I was wondering how much the port would take, couldnt find my box calculator i normally use (BCAE website one) Whats the formula for that?

36 is a bit too high, i guess if i throw a little length on the port itll drop it down, maybe 21.5" port. Been a while since i designed a ported box, little rusty lol.

Hows that sound?
