Done several, seems subs and port back is best in general, but i didnt notice much audible difference with subs up port back. Sounds like you just have a shitty box with a small port. Im working on 2 boxes right now, one with subs up port forward for 4 15"s, and one with subs up port forward for 2 18"s. I had 2 15"s setup the same and didnt notice a difference with them firing back, in a bigger ported box.

4 12"s firing back get loud in these cars, but its hard to fire 15s back because of the trunk space/height like you said. Caprice trunks are a little more crammed than pontiacs due to the lid/tail light design. Im gonna try port to the side one day and report back.

Just go ahead and put a pair of 15's down in the kick panels.

I think I'm going to try a different approach. I'm gonna build a baffle behind the rear seat, with another under the rear deck. Completely sealing the trunk from the cabin. Before doing this I'm going to get a good 4th order designed, and have 2-300 inches of port sealed firing into the cabin. Should work out.. theoretically

Subs up and port back should have been a lot louder than it was.. I've build dozens and dozens of boxes, and I guarantee if that setup was in any car other than this one it would have been loud. Trunk sounded like king kong was in it, but just didn't make in in the cabin..

Forgot to ask you, did you bother to take out any factory deadening or anything, try taking the rear seat out or porting the rear deck? Remember, back in the day these were luxury cars, even though the body style may not look like much they ride **** good compared to alot of new cars and are very well insulated from the trunk.

I cut a couple cross braces, removing the deadening in between the trunk and cabin... and deadened the entire trunk

Same thing i did. Mine was loud as hell with just 2 15"s, out did a couple high$ setups with it too.

Are you talking bandpass or just removing deadening and whatnot?

Just a regular box, about 6 cubes port and sub back, another subs up port back, sounded about the same imo. Heres a vid, this box was sealed in this vid for when i was testing it.
