Box building question

Use wood glue and 1-5/8" to a 2" long dry wall screws. Just pre drill your holes. If you are trying to use a nail gun you will split the wood. I use a brad nailer to hold in smaller pices like 45* angle pices in the box.

Well the box is already built, none of the MDF split, and it looks sturdy. just trying to see if it will hold or if I should be ready to build another. Its for a single Dayton HO 10. 1.5^3 ft tuned at 32hz.

as long as the liquid nails holds you should be fine. I use inch and a quarter brad nails to hold peices together as the glue dries, I don't think they'll do much good for structural integrity.

Liquid nails is not the best for box building however, screws and or nails are really just there to hold a box until it dries. Glue alone will hold a box together.

I use Braded Nails just to hold the wood in place and then screw the wood together for support. Also Use clamps when ever possible makes a better bond for the glue. Use only wood glue and not liquid nails.

Titebond next time you build a box . Dont use liquid nails . I use brads to hold it together for the glue to dry . I still use drywall screws for making sure the box wont come apart . If your building a box for spl , double face the box , 45 all your corners. Brace . I have built tons of boxes from sealed to ported ,from all mdf to all fiberglass . Just some suggestions .

ask chase007....he's a master box-builder
lmao. Oh, man. Chase007 is like a new cotjones. It's great.

But, Titebond (the only difference in the #'s is the level of water-proofness. I use I, but most popular is II. When my I runs out I'm gunna buy some III.

Also, put some screws (of your choice, I personally like coarse) about 6-8" inches from each other. 8 is better IMO. But it's all on preferance. And even if you got a perfect cut, perfect seal, perfect glue job, etc. Put a nice coat of silicone on each of the joints on the inside. What I do is put a nice glob along the whole thing, then just use my finger to press it in / smooth it out. It works out well. Color doesn't really matter, so don't worry. It's just aesthetics. But, with white, you can tell if you didn't get a spot as well as you'd like.

tightbond II is awesome... i use it and 18 guage 1.25" brads for all my boxes...
Ive found that 18 gauge nails are tool small for mdf, they really are not big enough and can actually bend while entering the wood and shoot out the side as if you misfired.

Not saying your doing it wrong thats just the general consensus.
