Box Builders: Ever have just a bad day?

I sux at making cuts with my circular saw. But my straight edge is bent so that is probably playing a factor. Can't wait til I have a house and table saw.

But who cares about straight cuts, that's what carpet is for. Just gotta goop up the liquid nails //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

yeah yeah lies! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
Shit if I ****ed up cuts on a table saw, I'd probably just quit life and kill myself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I still prefer my straightedge + circular saw for most cuts.

No matter how many times I measure on my table saw (yes, I measure both ends of the blade) somehow the long pieces still end up being off a bit. I'd guess it's from trying to manhandle huge pieces of wood by myself without a helper.

When I'm doing multiple pieces at the same width, that's all table saw. But if it's one long cut here, one long one there (which is usually the case on most of the box) I stick with the straightedge.

measure twice, cut once. i never use a square either. i just use the 3 marks method and draw a line with a metal yard stick.

edit: i also clamp the yardstick and run a quick sand down the edge.

when i was using my circular saw, i bought a thing called accu rip from sears. Its a guide made for the saw. Its attached to the saw and had a fence build into it that was marked up to 24". Just set the guide to whatever amount you need to cut and it would make a perfect cut everytime. loved it

those do work well. my co-worker has a rigid saw with the laser guide. nice saw.

Here is a good trick to get straight cuts with a circle saw. buy a holf sheet of 1/2" MDF and clamp it down to the pice you are trying to cut and use it as a straight edge. Just measure from the inner part of the blade to the ouside frame of the saw. Measer that distance over what you are trying to cut, clamp down the 1/2" MDf and you will have a straight cut. Did that untill I bought a table saw. Well worth the money, it will save you so much time on your builds.

I think all us builders have had those days before. I remember a few months back, when I was making a flush mount baffle for some plexi, I kept mixing up the dimensions. I think I cut them out about 4 times before I got it right. Then I went home...
