Box 4 ft^3 vs. 7 ft^3

If a person has the space, should they maximize their box size? I know this depends on the subwoofer type and size of the subwoofer, but what would the audible difference be between a ported box 4 cubes vs. a ported box 7 cubes for a 15" RE SE?

audible difference would be 7db's

bigger = flatter response and also a lower peak spl

but bigger isn't always better.
