Boston Z6 or Seas Lotus Reference?

I'm not going to put an EQ with the system so I won't be doing a lot of fine tuning, the most that I can do is probably sound deaden the doors and tweak the crossovers on the amp.
Then in this case the Z's would be the way to go. More of a plug and play set.

Will an average person be able to tune the Seas Reference to get them to sound good?
I my opinion yes, but it will take some time and practice. Is it worth it to you??

Again I'm not expert at car audio so I'm just wondering which set will sound better overall?
They both will sound very good overall....it's more about your utilization of the equipment than the speakers themselves.

How much power do I need to give to the Seas Reference set?
An honest 100w per side sould do the trick. I personally always over-power everything by 150% for dynamic headroom.

yes pretty much. you can use your eq on the HU. just buy the passive xovers as well so you dont have to worry about xover pts and slopes. then its just all on location of the drivers to get the best imaging and staging.

Everybody who says the pros sound better than Z6's must be smoking some real good shit. Have you actually seen a good install with the Z6's giving them enough power? I'll bet you haven't.
the z's will phsyically play louder without distortion, but the pros i think are a smoother more natural sounding speaker. but then again, everyones ears are different.

For amps, if possible I'm going for a JL 500/5. But then again I don't know if 100W RMS is enough for the Seas so I'm keeping my options open. If not I might need to get two amps, one for sub and one for speakers.
i have a zapco 360.4 ref and a 500.1 ref for sale. the 360 will do 180x2 at 4 ohms.

I am in the same boat except choosing between Morel Elate 6.2 and Seas Reference 6.2. I just ordered Seas Lotus Reference and will run them active with Audison LRx 4.5 (4x70W RMS), hope to get them installed by next week. Interesting that you are installing coaxial at the rear as I am leaving them empty. As for HU, I have decided to go with Clarion 956MC rather than Pioneer P880RS because of Clarion's Music Catcher CD Recorder and 24-Bit D/A Converter, but I have to admit the P880RS looks really cool.

And I think you should put in at least 2 layers of good soundproofing material in your front doors as those 'snappy' midbass from Seas will rattle the doors.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!!

Yea, door deaden is a must. I thought the 880PRS has 24bit DAC as well?

I'm going to bridge the Seas to a Helix HXA500 MKII giving it about 140w per side as well.

It's bizzare that Clarion does not sell that model in the US!! It's called DXZ955MC in Canada and DRZ958MC in Europe and it won the EISA award in 2005. I do believe 24-bit HU sounds nicer SQ wise.

Maybe because too many ppo are buying Sonys' and doesnt appercaite high end HU //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
