Boston Pro60 or Z6???

new question: how the heck do I remove the tweeters on the Z6 comps? There are two hex head screws, and I have removed those, but I can't figure out how to get the tweeters off. The instructions aren't very helpful...

carefully pop the grill off with a pick tool. then grab the convenient handle boston provides (also known as the AMD diffuser thingy) and turn counter clockwise. to remove the bridge there is also one hex screw underneath the tweeter you remove with the beautifully sculpted allen key boston provides. these allens work PERFECT in the jl audio amplifiers for their connections as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i have a half dozen or so of them accumulated. not only is the AMD diffuser thingy a nice handle for installing/removing the tweeters, but it also smooths out the tweeter response. you should see the charts boston provided us with that showed the response with and without the 'handle' //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hmm, for some reason, I never got notified about the replies. Thanks for the help. I did manage to somehow get them off myself, without ruining the tweets, or the woofers.

good luck.

and make sure all of your switches in the crossover are set right. if not, it will lead to a less than satisfactory sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif read over the manual once or twice to know exactly what the switches do and set them accordingly.

I'm bi-amping them, with a JL 450/4, so that switch should be on the bi-amp setting. I will leave the tweeter setting at 0 dB, since I can control the actual power going to the tweeter straight from the amp, and I think, since I am using the infinite baffle of my car door as the baffle, I should leave it on SQ1, but I am not sure about thaty. Any suggestions? The door will be sealed off pretty well with a bunch of dynamat, but it won't be perfect.

Bumping this to try and get an answer to my question:

I am bi-amping a set of Boston Acoustic Z6's with a JL Audio 450/4 amp. I have the 150x2 channels going to the woofers and the 75x2 going to the tweeters.

Considering that I have a JL 10w6v2 powered by a JL 500/1 in the trunk for the sub, what crossover settings on the 450/4 should I go with? In other words, what is the bandpass range for the woofer (on the 150x2 channel), and the high pass for the tweeters (on the 75x2) BA's website is not much help, it merely states the frequency response fot he overall system is 40 hz to 22 khz, but doesn't break down the woofers vs the tweeters.

Any suggestons?

why wouldn't you just run the tweet at full range and the mid with an 85-95 ish HPF and then let the component xover do the rest???

Because if you set the amp correctly, it won't be trying to reproduce frequencies on channels that don't use them. So, the woofer channels (150x2) would only be reproducing the bandpass freqs, and the tweeter channels would only be reproducing the highpass freqs, thus allowing each seperate channel to concentrate it's rated power on those freqs. Theoretically, this makes the amp run better.

I really don't think that makes the amp run "better" or "easier". I'm really trying to see where you are coming from with that one. Are you saying that sending a full range signal to an external crossover is harder on the amp than for it to just send a HP'd signal? I mean MAYBE on the midrange output it would since it takes more power from the amp to power the mids to reproduce the lower freqs, but the signal is being filtered/blocked at the xover on the tweeter side. That means that no matter what you send the tweeter x/over, it will only allow what BA has set it for to pass through. It won't make the amp work harder or easier on the tweeter side since those signals are never even making it to the actual speaker.

Right, as I understood it, if the amp doesn't have to reproduce frequencies that aren't getting passsed by the crossover, it will be able to dedicate more power to the frequencies that it does pass.

So, the 150x2 channels for the woofers can only reproduce say 80 hz to 1 khz (assuming that is the sext crossover point for the bandpass) and the 75x2 channels should only reproduce from 1 khz toi 22 khz (again assuming that these are the set point on the crossover)

Of course, if it makes no difference at all, then no worries.
