Boston Pro60 or Z6???

with power, the Z6 will sound way better than the pro's. the tweets are much much smoother on the Z's, the crossovers are way nicer. midbass is considerably better with the Z's in a proper install (deaden the PISS out of the door). the pro's will give you about 80% of the performance of the Z's....... until you start cranking it. then the Z's will walk away from the pro's like no other. cross them over at about 55-60hz and let 'em rip //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i'd definitely bi-amp them, it makes a huge difference, as well as gives you a lot more flexibility in tuning. i don't have a single complaint about my z's, very happy with them. i've had them for about a year or so and haven't looked back since //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can you please explain why this would be?

Depends on the price difference Colin. So if the Z's will give you 20% better performence you need to justify spending 150% more for them. I've heard both, and the Z's are soooooo nice:yumyum:

Thanks for the replies, how do the tweets sound? I am coming from Infinity Perfect 6.1's, so I am sure i will be in for a pleasant surprise with either one.

Both sets are from a private seller, both claim they were bought authorized. But who knows?? Both claim to have serial numbers on them.

Hopefully either set will work fine, I have yet*knock on wood* to have a speaker go bad on me.

to get the mathmatical explanation of why biamplification is better, i think audiocontrol has said it best. look on their website at the PDF's they have, a LOT of great information. basically, the amp isn't trying to do an entire spectrum range and doesn't have to work as hard, making it more efficient, giving you more headroom, giving you less distortion, and giving you more control over the sound. i had a GT22 on mine for a while, and they sounded great. i got rid of my 5.1 setup and the GT20 i was using for my center channel no longer had any use, so i figured why not use that on the tweets. it made them sound like entirely different speakers. and by bi-amping them, it gives me more flexibility and tuneability. i try to keep a stock look in my car, so they are in the stock locations with the mid low in a very well deadened door, and the tweets in the sail panels. it gives me the ability to use the time alignment more efficiently by giving me seperate alignment for the mids and tweets independantly. helped the soundstage a ton as well.

the main difference you'll hear between the Z's from the pro's is they'll take way more power, have way smoother tweets... the pro's are more like lazerbeams; the midbass is more present, and when you start cranking it up they'l hold their linearity all the way up, as where the pro's will crap out and start losing quality after a certain point. looking back, they are definitely worth the extra money. if you're gonna do it, you might as well do it right the first time, and not wonder late down the road how much better it might sound had you sprung a couple bucks more for the Z's...

thank you for the great response. So essentially the Z6's won't make your ears bleed? I keep hearing they are very "natural" sounding, what does that mean to you?

I am coming from Infinity Perfect comps and the tweeters on those are so bright it kills me. Not so bad at lower levels, but at higher volumes its almost unbearable.

Thanks

I remember going to Ultimate Electronics when they carried BA and the Z's first came out and spending like and hour on their sound board trying to get all their other offerings - Type X, Kappa Perfects, etc to come close to the Z's and they were not even in the same league. Natural is good way to explain the sound. I would also add effortless and smoooooth. Go Z's dude!!

If you are dealing with Matt Z, he is totally legit and very professional. I think I bumped your thead on SD??

Not to steal the thread here, but I've been mulling over my options and recently decided to get some Z's myself. I'd been looking at the focals and planing to use a 75Wx4 amp on them but since I think I would be happier with the BA's I think I need to re-evaluate that. They are pretty power hungry, what would you guys recommend as an appropriate SQ amp for these beasts? Hoping to find a 4-channel to bi-amp them in the $400 - $500 range.
