Hi There
I am seeking help on a subwoofer setup recommendation for my boat. I currently have an alpine type r 1242d sub in a sealed .85 enclosure that is ancient and the aluminum is rotting from the elements in the boat over the years. Anyhow I'm looking to start over. The storage compartment the subwoofer is in has only a 9" wide door. So I would like to have an enclosure that's 9" wide or tall and then install the sub once the box is in the compartment. This is how it's currently setup. The compartment is large, just the access door is small! If its a must I can assemble the box inside the compartment but I'd rather not. So that being said I was thinking I should get somewhat of a shallow mount sub for a sealed enclosure. I was looking into the Dayton rss315ho-44/rss265ho/rss315ho-4. With the small volume requirement of these subs I was planning on attempting to fit 2 12" subs in this compartment at near 1.0 cubic foot. These subs are around 5.75" deep so I think I can do it. One question I can't seem to find the answer to is are these subs going to be loud enough in the open space of my boat at around 83-85 db sensitivity? Or am I better off getting 1 quality subwoofer with a lot of excursion and a higher sensitivity in a 1.0 cubic foot enclosure? I listen to all kinds of music, a little of absolutely everything! And I play my music at very high volume levels so I can hear it outside of the boat while we are swimming. I don't have tower speakers yet! I want a nice boom but not sloppy because I crank my tunes and if I have to turn down the sub due to crappy sound then the mids will overpower and then I'm all treble!
Thank you for your help!
