aight his budget is around 300-400 bucks, he has a cabin thats about 4ft wide 3 ft tall, 4-5 ft deep its where the steering wheel is, he has 6 infinity 6.5s hes gonna get for 55 a pair form BB, he needs a sub/amp combo, what would work best i told him aroudn 350 he could get 2 type r 12s and a amp , but how loud would that be in a boat in all, also would he want it ported or sealed, hit me up with many ideas THANKS!

get something that is meant for marine applications otherwise it willl dry rot and VC's will rust like hell.
well it would be underneat a cabin, no water would get in it really, if it was in a bandpass box would that help? no water can hit it, but still the moisture,

I don't agree with the "marine application" thing. In my experience they typically don't sound as good as the other speakers...... My opinion only. Those infinity's will be made of materials that can withstand moisture. Think about it, they go into Jeep Wranglers all the time. When they are mounted into the door of a sedan, aren't they exposed to moisture there too? Car wash?

Anyway, do a ported box.

Finally, in my experiences doing a boat right requires more than $400. Typically I recommend you spend twice as much doing a system in a boat than you would for a vehicle that has a "cab". SUV's, Sedans, for exapample. With the openness of a boat, you loose a lot of volume.

Again, my opinion. It's been a long time since I posted anything on this board. Many of the folks here tend to not agree with some of the things I say..........So, with that, take it or leave it. Good luck.

IMO marine speakers are far from a necessity. Unless it's going to be in direct sunlight 24/7 or getting SOAKED constantly, I'd just get something that's not plain paper.

If you take decent care of your boat -- keep it covered when you're not using it and air it out when it gets wet you shouldn't have a problem with your speakers.

Besides - if you treat it like crap it doesn't matter what's in it - the elements won't treat it well.

$400? theres no need to do anything crazy like that.

just get an amp and subs like you would for a car, that cab sounds pretty **** small, and tehre will certainly be some cabin gain. like mentioned- downfiring ported would work quite well. i have a ported box in my basement that is ****nig huge with tons of shit in it for two 8's and like 300w off a profile amp that gets pretty loud. i cant imagine what a pair of 12's off a 400~500w amp would sound like ported.

as long as the cabin is dry and aired out, it shouldnt be a big deal. just mount everything AWAY from where the water\sun is, and mount the amp somewhere nice and dry.

cars arent very dry\good places for audio eaither. condensation in the morning is never good - and it gets all over your subs all the time. salt twater is alot worse, if its a fresh water boat, id espically not be worried about it.

just my $.02C

See, I told you the people on this board rarely agree with me......So, let me say it this way. Isn't a boat just a $20,000 and up toy? Yeah, it's a big expensive toy. If you have one, you can assume that there are a few extra nickels in the bank. All I'm sayin is don't cheap out on the system you put in there.

aight sweet thanks for all of the input, by the way he got 2 - 12 kappa perfect tens, thats what he says, and luckily i have a dual bandpass box around the house, thats what it will go in, that plexiglass in front will actually help, and it is a 5,000 dollar speed boat, not sure on the feet maybe 25 or so? nothing huge, and its a 96, all ne interior and brand new engine, he bought it wil crappy interior and is getting it done now, so it will be new

you won't be doin those kappa perfects any favors by throwing them in a bandbass enclosure. Box builiding is a science and when you put a woofer of that quality in to any ol' box, they typically don't perform to what they're capable of. With those woofers, moisture isn't a concern. The cone is treated with a ceramic material.

Again, my opionin.
