soo after a month and a couple days i think ive blow my 12" type R, i dont see how tho, its wired uup to a alpine mrp-m500 amp which is a 500 wrms amp and the type r is rated 200-500wrms i belive. my box is made by me the dimensions are:

front - 21.5 x 13.5

back - 24 x 13.5

top/bottom - 24 x 15

left side - 14.25 x 13.5

right side - 13.5 x 13.5

port 1 - 11.75 x 13.5

port 2 - 5 x 13.5

which worked out to around 2 cubes at 35 or 36 hz, and i got it from the RE audio box design thing.

and its starting to stink my sub when i turn the volume up loud, and on my amp i have the gain to minimal and the db at about 3, and the lp filter is about 75, would my box or the amp be causing my sub to start to fry? would

i be able to take it back to the store i bought it at and get it replaced as its been like 35 days??

when you run a ported box the sub holds less power and the 500wrms for the speaker is the max rms so if u run that all the time then it wont last its like running your car at 6,000 rpm all day and night when it red lines so thats probable why

so what your saying is id have to set the gain on the amp at max and turn the db boost down cuz that would probly disort the shit outta it, and that would be getting roughly 500rms? or what about a sealed? what would that do for it?

WTF....

I have run type Rs with a full 850-875 RMS at full throttle for sometimes up to 10 hours at a time. 2.5 cubes each at 32 hertz.

There is something else wrong here. OP.. How did you set the gains on your amp??

gain is only relative to volume. If you had your gain at 25-50% and turned your volume up to where the sub saw distortion for long periods of time, then it will likely blow. What was your volume at on the head unit and where were your gains set?

well i have a pioneer 400ub hu and i have the volume from 40-50, goes higher than 50 but b4 i got my sub anything over 50 on most songs just distorts. so with my volume at 40-50 the gain on the amp would be at nominal which is half on my amp

funky i never stated my sub was blown i stated that i think it is,and have a "?" on the topic. and yes i think that becasue of the stink it shouldnt be stinking up my entire car.

You are just speculating things here. You really need to properly set your gains with a digital multi meter to know exactly what is going on.

It will take you about 30 minutes to an hour to do it right depending on how many amps and speakers you have. Do this ASAP and hopefully save your sub.

im not speculating anything,im telling it how it is.

as for using a digital multimeter, dont have one, so thats pretty useless for me

or i would have done that already.

using a DMM is the most basic way to make sure that you are matching your input voltages and sending your subs the correct amount of clean power. More than likely one of your friends or neighbors has one that you can borrow. If not.. they can be bought for around 20 dollars (USD) and if need be you could always buy one and then return it after you set your gains.

setting your gain on "nominal" does not mean anything and you could still be giving your drivers inapproriate power. The gain setting tutorial is very easy to follow and you will not regret it. When i was a noob I thought i had everything set up properly and was popping and buring out speakers left and right. Once properly configured though,, i have not had a single problem.
