I recently purchased a dayton 12" ho dvc and I had it installed yesterday. I must have used it for about an hr before it blew out. The rms is 700 and max is 1200 watts. I was only using a 800 watt boston amp. Do you guys have any idea on how this happened? Any one have a similar experience?

It was a sealed box made by pro-rabbit. As for the settings I'm not sure how the installer guy set it. This is my first sound system ever so I am a complete noob when it comes to anything regarding car audio.

btw, thanks for the box prorabbit. it sounded amazing up until it went out lol

Any decent installer would have tuned it using a 0db tone. Even if it was tuned to 800w (unlikely on that amp) you shouldn't have hit that constantly on music for more than 2 or 3 seconds max as most music is generally recorded at -3 to -6db with some exceptions on bass hits reaching 0db.

Blowing the sub in mere hours to me says that A: the installer didnt know what the hell they were doing or B: You turned it up much louder than it was setup for, or turned up the bass boost.

Microhaxo u seem to be right. I went back to check the subwoofer level and it was at 3db. And that's what the installer set it as on the HU. If it is clipped, is there any way to fix it? Or am I better off just getting a new speaker

I'd like to know why it failed so quickly. Was the amp or sub defective? I will guess that the sub failed do to over heating. But if it were my sub I would find out what happened before installing another sub.

I'll take it to get checked next week to see what the problem was. As far as it overheating, how do you prevent that?

And the amp and sub were brand new, idk what could have happened. Idk how to check if the amp is defective
