Supposedly Nile also has an incredible drummer, especially with the kick-bass. I wouldn't know, I don't like them.

I should make a death metal thread. Hypocrisy is ****ing awesome, as far as death metal goes. And some blackened death is bad as **** too. Belphegor, Behemoth, Dissection, etc..........

It's like this.

50% Death Metal + 50% Black Metal = Blackened Death Metal

It's not a "real" genre, just a term used to describe a couple dozen or so bands that kind of cross in between.

For example:

Darkthrone started off as straight death metal. Then they moved to straight black metal.

Behemoth is the other way around. First albums were pure black metal, and now they are death. So they are often called blackened death.

Grimfist is some pretty ****ing wicked death metal, as well. Dunno if I could handle an entire album of their stuff though. It is downright ****ing brutal.

i guess that makes some sense. i'm 31 now, i used to keep up when it mattered. now i just download off azureus and go to work. i'll walk over and see slayer, kill switch, etc., when i see them at the filmore, but that's the level of involvement anymore in metal.

I understand man, no worries. It really isn't worth actually "keeping up" with it anyway. Just every now and then do some research to find out what the really good new shit has been released and you should be straight. No reason to be like on top of every new band before they even release their new albums and shit, ya know? That's how I feel, anyway. Better to wait a year or more and see what other people think was the best.

If anyone here listens to melodic metal, and you like femal vocals, Leaves Eyes are fawking awesome. Some of the best melodic metal I've heard in a long while.....

I don't like any of those bands you listed, but they are pretty heavy indeed. Death metal, once again not my thing.

What kind of melodic metal? Nearly all metal genres have melodic parts. I'm guessing with a female vocalist, this is gothic metal? I hate gothic metal. Melodic death/black has some really strong moments, especially black, but I don't think I've ever heard a melodic-death band with female vocals.
