We have no thread about black metal here so I made one! If my search missed it, sorry, I ****.

Who here is a fan of the black metal? Favorite bands/albums? Songs? Recommendations? Posers? Haters?

Comments about black metal clothing or outfits/costumes are strictly prohibited in this thread. Everything else goes.

Just a few of my favorite albums:

Weakling - Dead as Dreams

Ulver - Bergtatt

Windir - 1184

Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness

Satyricon - Nemesis Divina

Borknagar - Quintessence

PS - if you don't like black metal, you **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Mord - Christendom Perished

I don't know if thye are still considered Black Metal, but Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultis is a good album

Nachmystium - Demise

Black Metal is far from my favorite genre, but there are some cool albums out there.

not sure if you would consider them black metal or not.. but i used to listen to like tristania and old cradle of filth.. like in the late 90's.

Those are the only two i can think of now. I'm old.

Here's a few I have in my collection:

Dissection-The Somberlain and the live album are both good.

Behemoth as mentioned above. Have that one in the player currently.

Blut Aus Nord-Kind of a mix of black metal, doom metal with a bit of ambient thrown in.

Emperor put out some good stuff.

Agalloch (sp?)-Not really black metal but you can hear the influence. They are from Seattle I believe.

Naglfar-Their sound is typical black/death metal but they have some good riffs.

Xasthur

Amon Amarth-Unapologetic Viking war metal. Corny but kind of cool at the same time.

Darkthrone-Bleak with old school black metal production or lack of production depending on how you look at it.

A lot of people consider CoF black metal. They are in most ways, just not my thing.

Early Behemoth was definitely black, they aren't anymore though.

I don't consider Agalloch black metal either, but I love Ashes Against the Grain even so.

Ten thumbs up to Xasthur, Emperor, Darkthrone, Naglfar, Dissection. I'll have to check out Blut Aus Nord... sounds like my kind of thing for sure.

I know there are more fans around here... most who will probably put my knowledge of the genre to shame.

i've stopped trying to make distinctions between the different "kinds" of metal. they have it classified into so many **** categories. it used to be able to be put into just a few groups: heavy metal, thrash metal, and death metal. now, they have it split up so much, that i've stopped caring.

Gorgoroth is ridiculously heavy and brutal. Along with Mayhem they are the "blackest" black metal in my opinion.

And yeah, Gaahl is a strange character. Also one of my favorite metal vocalists ever.

That's silly. There aren't that many different genres. And what do you expect, when there are so many more people making music, and all different kinds?

It's not that hard to keep track of. Especially if you actually listen to the stuff, it is really easy and very helpful.

The only genres you really need to know are:

Death

Black

Power

Gothic (//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sick.gif.b1847c8dabbfeeddbcf1a78052249e10.gif)

Thrash

Then there are some smaller genres which are usually similar to those main ones anyway:

Folk

Doom

Grind

Viking

I definately agree with you. There are way too many metal genres, but black metal is one of the big ones and has earned it's right to it's own genre. Anyways my favorite black metal albums are:

Necrophobic - Darkside (If you can find it buy it. It not only is my favorite black metal album but one of my favorite albums period.)

Dissection - Storm of the Lights Bane

Old Man's Child - Pagan Prosperity

I listen to rock, not all that screming shit, so I will just ****. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Well I like some screming shit, so not all is lost, but stuff like mudvayne, slipknot, gwar and shit like that. I usually listen to alternative and classic rock though.

dimmu borgir
/thread
Dimmu Borgir is awesome. Though my favorite song of theirs (not counting In Death's Embrace) is from their post-black metal years: "Blood Hunger Doctrine"

They aren't a thread ending band though. Many others have more quality black material.
