Black Metal

ok i saw your name and thought of thrash so has anyone heard the new magadeath its like there old old sturr when they were really thrash it kicks *** and the new metallica is supposed to be like the old stuff but ill belive it when i see it and i think its funny how megadeath just did this come bak thing into the thrash just like anthrax did when they came out with weve come for you all
Sorta where the name came from. I like a lot of thrash, but I guess I define thrash differently. To me thrash=bands like Discordance Axis. Then again, I lump thrash and grind together.

Thou art forgetting:
Hardcore

Nu-Metal

Glam/Hair (Although I don't consider this metal. It's hard rock. The fact that it has been classified as "metal" is just weird)

I'm sure there are more that have been forgotten but it just goes to prove the point that there are way too many metal genres. Anytime something original sounding comes out everyone has to rush to call it something. Why? It's stupid and pretty pointless if you ask me. Oh well I'm done ranting.
Those you listed are not metal. They are not metal sub-genres, and they are not metal genres. Not even close. They are rock.

Tons of original stuff is coming out in metal, and it all fits into the main categories I listed (and progressive which I forgot). Music that isn't metal, obviously doesn't fit.

People make up sub genres all the time. Pagan metal, suicidal black metal, goregrind, grindcore, etc etc - all of which you can ignore unless you know what the sub-genre means and want to find more like it or something. It's really not that difficult. And the system works fine.

You omitted fantasy metal, and I don't think sludge has been mentioned either.
But as for black metal:

opeth

goregasm

vader

today is the day

dying *****

Not a huge fan, but I like a lot of those bands stuff.
Power Metal = Fantasy Metal. Same thing.

Those bands you listed are all death metal, not black metal, except for Opeth which is kind of progressive death. Vader and Opeth are good though.

I disagree, there are enough Fantasy metal bands I believe it deserves its own category. There are also fantasy metal bands that I would not consider Power metal, a perfect example being Blind Guardian. I wont disagree that the bulk of it stemmed from power metal, I just think it is prolific enough to deserve its on genre.

Fair enough, I don't listen to enough of it to really discern the difference, I guess I mashed death/black into one. Neither are my cup of tea, but I do like some of it.

I dunno about that man.

I like some power metal very much, the rest I pretty much hate. Blind Guardian is one of my favorites. Hammerfall, Gamma Ray, Freedom Call, Stratovarius. They are all power metal I like. They are also very much fantasy metal. I'm failing to see how there is any difference at all. Almost without exception every power metal band has predominantly fantasy subject matter. I can't even think of a power metal band right now that isn't fantasy oriented.

Sound of White Noise, and We Come for You All were some of Anthrax's best stuff im sorry if i offend anyone but Belladonna(sp?) sucked in Anthrax i think the Bush era of Anthrax is a lot better, except i still jam out to Caught in a Mosh

Old Mans Child is a great band

i dont know if you consider My Dying Bride death or black but they are pretty good also

if i remember right All That Remains is christian but thier shit is pretty good listen to For Salvation or This Calling.this band is great live, lost my concert virginity to Lamb of God, Chimaira, Unearth, and All That Remains.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/peace.gif.2db28b618ed8d1964ebbe2f5021d2c39.gif the lead singer Phil is the old singer from Shadows Fall back in the"Somber Eyes to the Sky" era

Demon Hunter is another christian.

if you havent check out some of Morbid Angels stuff

Not forgetting Dragonforce, I just don't like them. I don't really know why. It seems like I should really like stuff like Dragonforce, Kamelot, Edguy, Sonata Artica, etc... but I don't. I'm really particular about power metal for some reason.

It's wierd because I love the style. I like power metal in general, like the operatic vocal harmonies, the over-the-top riffs and fantasy themes. It just seems like most of the actual bands doing it don't settle with me very well. Kind of the opposite of black metal. I don't give two shits about satanism or ******* or plagues or any of that shit, but I love most of the music.

its kinda wierd here to i like some power metal but most of it i dont like cept cellador and dragonforce and a few others. sonata artica did a song live with nightwish that was pretty good. for the operatic singing i usualy stick with tristinia, nightwish(powermetalish), theatre of a tradgedy, epica and a few others i cant name off the top of my head right now

i sugest cellador though just check em out on myspace. the lead singer has a voice simular to bruce dickinsons

im not much for lyrics either cept if its like tool or some other band that makes you think. im a double bass junki nothing like double bass on subs if its tuned low. like cephalic carnage some of thier shit ****ing pounds and is loud as **** on a system

nothing like feeling double bass:peace:

Yeah bass drums are ****ing awesome, specially on the Mags //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Unfortunately, the vast majority of black metal is badly produced, and the bass drums also have a lot of ambient bass frequency surrounding them, so if you turn up the subs it just kind of sounds like a deep frothing mush and it ****s up the rest of the sound. Black metal is usually the music I keep my subs the lowest on.
