Black Metal

Yeah bass drums are ****ing awesome, specially on the Mags //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif
Unfortunately, the vast majority of black metal is badly produced, and the bass drums also have a lot of ambient bass frequency surrounding them, so if you turn up the subs it just kind of sounds like a deep frothing mush and it ****s up the rest of the sound. Black metal is usually the music I keep my subs the lowest on.
That's exactly why I don't like black metal, poor production. That and the vocals usually leave a lot to be desired.

LLK is about the worst I listen to anymore. If I want double bass, oddly enough I turn to a christian band.... symphony in peril.

to this day, the worst metal of any kind i've ever heard is carcass. horrible production.

I absolutely ****ing love black metal vocals. Seriously, I can't get enough of them. I have no idea why. Everything points to hating them. Dudes screaming, sounding like they are getting tortured. It's ridiculous. But I ****ing love it. Should listen to Weakling - Dead as Dreams. The vocals on that album will seriously give you nightmares, but they are soooooooooo ****ing good.

I used to not understand the bad production of black metal. Like, what is the point, if you can record better, to not do it? Burzum, for example, had no choice, recording out of jail and stuff. But it's not about bad production really. It's about the right production. Hard to explain, but it's really very important for the albums atmosphere. It can make or break an album, and crystal clear production is often not the best way to do it. Look at Xasthur for example. His production is awful by all normal standards, but it sounds so ****ing bleak and hollow, it is ridiculously awesome and works perfectly.

Then again, you have stuff like early Bathory, Ulver's BM stuff, early Graveland, early Taake, which I wish had better production. In some cases, it really was because they just didn't have any better equipment to use.

Enough of that.

i personally like well produced music. i love metal as well, but ever since i first listened to pink floyd's the wall, i'm hooked on clear sound. i can stand a little in the way of production flaws, purposely or accidental, but not much.

There are albums in other genres where I can't stand the production. Bad production is almost always a bad thing. But with black metal, sometimes bad production is good production. I flat out won't listen to a badly produced electronic or ambient album.

one of the things i love about metal is the mix of bass drum and cymbals along with a metal vocal. i love it to be clear and precise. i can get into anything that is. others...mehh. you like 3 inches of blood?

LOLLIPOP LUST KILL:peace: they were good but i dunno if i remember right but think they might of been getting back together

if you guys want to test your subs out on some double bass check out cephalic carnage the name of the cd i recomend is anomalies some nice as sub bass to check out track 5 on that cd bout 40-45 seconds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif it puts my lighter out when that note hits

most black metal and a lot of other bands the quality of thier recording is based off of funds. most metal dont make enough money anymore some bands loose all thier money and are still only doing it for the music. and some people say they have no talent? haha well almost everyone in these types of bands have a lot of talent as it takes more talent to do screaming than normal singing, drums are fan****ingtastic, guitar is awsome, some of the bass players are good, and some of the programing is really good also

Nope. I hate 95% of death metal. I'm just weird like that I guess.

If you like good metal drumming, listen to Mayhem.

Supposedly Nile also has an incredible drummer, especially with the kick-bass. I wouldn't know, I don't like them.

But for testing kick-drums, I like to use Amon Amarth - Valhall Awaits Me. Constant super-fast drumming, and very high in the mix. When I turn sub-level up on that I can't hear shit else. And my car/ears fall apart.

Actually, if you like drumming in metal, **** Mayhem, Amon Amarth is what you need. Don't even think I'm kidding. That shit is nuts.

you are. i hear metal as metal regardless of styles/types. anything from old maiden to decapitated. good is good. unless you listen to another genre of music, you're kinda limited to options.

you guys here of Quo Vadis? if not check out thier song On the Shores of Ithaka they are from canada so it not shitty amrican black or death i dont know what catergory they fit under all i know is they are pretty good
I'm listening to "In Contempt" by them right now, from a death metal mix. They are positively 100% death metal.
