bigger door speakers

Hi folks this is my first time posting here and it's really a good place for information. I have a 2003 ford F150 ext cab truck and the front and rear door speakers are 5x7. I thought about getting one of those custom fit sub boxes from JL audio but decided not to because there really isn't any place to mount amps in there to drive both a sub AND the door speakers AND remain hidden from view(the amps that is). So I was wondering if any of you have ever rebuilt door panels in such a way that maybe 6x9's will fit?

I wouldnt suggest doing 6*9s. They do make 5.25 speakers that come with speaker adapters, or you can always buy some if they dont come with them. And they will fit into your 5*7 openings.

id say go for a round speaker insted of those oval shaped ones

if u dont want 5.25's u can go up2 the 6.5's and make some mdf spacers and mount them 2 the door, there might b some holes that u can use 2 mount the mdf ring or u could jus drill some

Just build a mdf baffle. I have an 02 supercrew. (same truck basically) 6.5's will fit easily with just a baffle.

You can also put the amps under or behind the seats. I've seen a lot of x cabs with the amps behind the seats and the subs under. You may have to raise the back seats some.

And do not buy the $100 kit. All the kit is, is tubular steel with longer bolts. I went and had some steel cut to my specs and bought longer bolts all said was around 10 bucks.

well my truck is an XL with no bells and whistles (no tilt no cruise no power locks or windows etc etc....) and the back seat is right up against the back of the cab and it doesn't move forward at all. So nothing will fit behind it. I can either fit a box or an amp under it but not both. I would need at least two amps because all of the 5 channel models are too big to mount flat and neat anywhere and be hidden satisfactorily. As far as under the front seats.... they aren't powered so that big long bar under there presents a problem as well.
