a spider does not rip all the way off like that, it breaks where the glue is attached, this dude clearly cut it all the way around...

and if it did it wouldnt be able to fold the cone inside out where the coil is located.

to much power wouldnt do that.

i put one of my goliaths to a mtx 12 and gave it full volume with gain wide open and that biotch didnt fold....

Im sure this guy isnt running 5 k to his sub

and james ran 12k to his one 18 and it didnt do that

and another dude is running to 12ks, one to each 12 and they havent done it either....

T3 was famous for shooting the dustcaps off the cones and coils doing the exact same thing. I think it is more prone to happen when playing below tuning on excessive power.Not to mention on a single spider alone

if the spider rips then there isnt gonna be no way that coil gets enough push to pop off the dust cap and turn the cone inside out.

the suspension probably ripped and the coil got hung up on the edge while the cone was fully exerted, then the dude tried to push it down and the coil ripped through...

at o8 worlds we lanched a ab15 hd right out the pole peace and tore 8 spiders but that was with a lincoln ls with 4 15s dual ones on 16 saz1500ds with 16 kintik 2400s so an easy 6k per sub you can probily find it on youtube

and i have tore alot of hd spiders my 4 15 setup in my yukon when i had 4 hds in had one sub no spiders 2 subs 4 torn on each and a fresh recone i could still do a 153.2 at 39 with 2 saz3000 whats weird about these subs is even with no spiders and chrushed cones they still play fine except for the 2 i installed in my friends 2 tone magnum he has slinkyed coils on 2 subs broke is box and his saz 3000 he says he dont beat on his stuff though

Actually, whats shown in the pics is EXACTLY what would happen if the spider were to rip. The coil is driving the cone outward but is limited in its forward movement by the spiders (not the cone/surround). If that spider rips, then the coil keeps pushing the cone forward until one of two things happens:

Either

A) The coil jumps the gap with cone/surround travel to spare

or

B) the coil pushes through and folds up the cone because the cone travel is now limited by the surround versus the spider and/or coil and gap length.

This logic makes no sense to me. The suspension (spider) actually helps impede coil motion, not create it. So with no spider attached, more excurion would be the result, not less.
