big kenwood kdc-mp828 problem, need help

ok...i have a kenwood kdc-mp828 HU. great unit, never had a problem with it until recently. lately when i push any button on the HU the screen goes out. yeah, simple fix just make sure the faceplat is on good and go. but its not that simple. even though the screen goes out (completely blank, even the buttons) the cd player keeps playing and the remote will control it. no biggie really cause the remote does alot but there are still features it wont do. the faceplate will come back on, go thru the startup sequence without ever interrupting cd play and will come back on, without skipping a beat. first off, anyone ever have this happen and how can i fix it?

Try taking some alcohol and a cue tip and cleaning the terminals. Both the radio and face plate terminals. Sounds like its not getting a good connection to all the prongs on the face plate.
