big 3

Yayyyyy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If by the right size you mean correct diameter for the sub (10", 12", etc) then a smaller airspace than the sub's recommended airspace will act like firmer suspension behind the sub - the air behind it will compress more quickly than if there were more air, which means it will be harder to make the sub move as much, and consequently get as loud as if it had a bigger box. However, this also means you can run more power to the sub safely, since there is more "damping" behind it.

Does this make sense?

ya but i built my own box and its small is that a bad idea

cant make it no bigger or it wont fit lol

One option is to fill it with polyfill, this helps small boxes. I've done it in all of mine.

Another is to run a little more power to the sub if the coil and everything can handle the extra thermal load. By building a smaller box you have increased the power handling of the sub in a way. The additional power will help the sub compensate for the extra-firm air suspension behind it, if you think of it that way.

Id just throw em in and see how it sounds; just make sure your bass boost is off (not needed) and don't crank your gain too high. The subs will be able to take more power now but if you give them tooooo much they could fail from too much heat. What amps and subs do you have? Ill respond in a bit, goin to lunch. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

they sound good but is my bass boost on the amp or radio also were is the gain lol sorry just gettin into this and its not good speakers and amp but its all i can afford right now they sony explode subs and pioneer amp lol ya idk what to do haha

sometimes the bass boost is on both - just make sure it's not on wherever it is. Props on building your own box. I'd just throw the subs in and wire em up, set the gain conservatively and see how they sound. There are many schools of thought on setting gain; personally I do it by ear mostly and just ensure there is no distortion. Distortion, or clipping, will hurt the subs.

Do you have the install all set, like power wire run and everything?
