Big 3 issues.

I am planning a pretty extensive overhaul of my system in my car once the weather cools down. I have never done the big 3 on my car ('01 Mustang GT) mostly because I just haven't needed it.

So I was cleaning my engine compartement out a little yesterday and I looked into what I'm going to have to do to complete the big 3 on my car. Well to make a long story short it looks like a pain in the ***. The power and ground off of the battery both are wrapped in a tube and go under the engine (to the firewall presumably). The lead from the alternator has a weird spark-plug boot on it that would never, ever fit onto 1/0 wire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My problem is that I would want it to look as close to stock as possible, and I would like to retain the weather protection that the manufacturer put on the wires as I believe such things are there for a good reason.

Does anyone know if you can obtain the plastic tube wrap that covers the wires? This stuff is most deffinately built differently then the stuff you find at an office max or something.

wire loom. can get it any size and will stand up to the heat as long as its not touching anything. its like 5 bucks for a 100' roll

That's the problem though, the factory stuff is very heavy duty and I think it probably touches the oil pan when it goes under the engine.....on top of that it needs to be like 2" in diameter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i'm sure you can get all you could possibly need for under $10.

and why does it have to be 2" in diameter, just do use a new piece of loom around each wire.

There was one there originally I'd rather keep it at 1 run and not 2 if I can.

You can pick up loom at Home Depot. I got a 10' run of 3/8" loom for $0.99.. Wrapped my power 4ga. in it and ran the loom next to the stock loom using black zip ties. It looks completely stock...

There "Is" High Temperature and Flame Retardant Wire Loom.It's usually designated by a (In the pic I saw) Grey Tracer color,like the ones that some wires have on them.That Loom is more $$,but can take the high heat/temperature of an Engine.One source is http://www.delcity.net

If you're doing the *Big Three*,Use "Dual Wall-Adhesive Shrink Tubing" on the All aftermarket 1/0 cable connector Under The Hood ConnectionsIt Will keep the hostile environments away from and waterproof the connections!It's worth the $$ to have a reliable connection without Re/Doing it from corrosion:furious: !
