Better to go with 2 or 1?

Hi, I'm mapping out a future system for when I switch cars, possibly this year. Now, I have 1 AQ1200D powering 2 subs. In the future system I'm looking to switch to subs that handle 1,000 rms. At first I was thinking about just grabbing a second 1200D and run 1 amp on each sub. But to possibly cut back on headaches/price I was thinking of selling the 1200D and just grab a 2200D, because I'm going to get a AQ4x90 for my front and rear speakers. I wanted to avoid 3 amps. If it matters, I'm looking at the HDC315s which I'm basically set on. Also, yes, I know people will that I need waaayyy more power, but I've looked around the forum quite a bit from AQ users who say it's actually not necessary, especially for someone who isn't going to be competing. I just want to know is going with a 2200D is the better route with wiring and everything. Also, just in case anyone wonders, I will be upgrading my alt to a H/O and using 0/1 gauge wiring for the power wire, plus upgrading battery under hood. Thanks guys.

Well yes running 1 amp over 2 will cut down on some wires but other then that I see no reason to go with a 2200 over 2 1200's. I mean you already have 1 1200 I would think it would be alot cheaper to just buy a second used 1200 then it would be to buy a 2200. Also, the hdc3's can get loud with 1k each of course you can give them more but you can always deal with that down the rd. Also if you plan on using 1 1200 per sub then you would also get more power from the 2 1200's. Each 1200 does 1200@1ohm so 2 would equal 2400 when then 2200 is only rated at 2200. Yea I know 200 watts is not going to make much of a difference but every bit helps. Get a solid electrical system and you can run those 1200's down to .5 ohm but thats only if you know what your doing.

It would be easier to go with a 2200, but cheaper to go with a 1200. The benefit of strapping 2 amps together is that they will share the box rise. This will give you a little more power. Your electrical system and coil configuration also makes a difference as far as your options. I know the Alum Coils HDC3s are D1 only, not sure about the copper.

Man, fast responses. Love it. Umm, if I went with the 2 for the sub, plus the speaker amp, what type of distribution block would I need. Also, wondering, do blocks affect electrical, since from what I understand the 0/1 gauge goes into an input, and the output wire is 4 gauge I believe? About the .5 ohm load, I won't even pretend I'm experienced enough. I have a system now, but a complete noob still. Concerning cheaper vs easier/more manageable, I'd of course sell my 1200D, which I haven't looked at used prices, but I should be able to get like 150 for it right? It's never had a problem, and only been mounted once. So 350-150 would 200. Once again, thanks for helping a noob out guys.

U could prob get $150 for your amp. But in the end I still think it would end up being cheaper to just buy a used 1200 then to go to the trouble of selling you amp then trying to find a 2200. But its your car your audio only you can really make the decision.

Yeah, I think i just might end up going the 1 route. I have plenty of time to decided, that's why I'm asking questions much in advance so that I'm not scrambling for anything.

I'm not sure. Possibly towards the end of August. Depends on when I can grab a newer car. If this lady my dad works with, ends up getting a new car, she'll sell us her 2004 Monte Carlo that has like 58,000 miles on it only. Other factors too, thought I had this full time job locked up, (just finished school in Dec), but they decided to not fill the position for the time being, aka Weak.

op, what subs do you have now?

and the new HDC's are coming out soon //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

and about the amp situation, i would just run one amp. When running two different amps, you have to tune them exactly to each other.

and this is the first time ive seen a new member actually know what he is talking about lol welcome
