I might put it in my silverado as a single 12, I'm considering getting two but it'd be way expensive lol one of these can handle 2-3kw I've heard.

 
I would be careful with the gain and your enclosure design. XBL^2 you don't generally have as much coil as regular overhung designs although the RE XXX had the most robust coil out of the readily available 3" motors. I wouldn't personally throw 3k at one, but 2k I would definitely try.

 
I'd like to learn more about this sub, and its capabilities. If it fits into my goals then I'll run it, otherwise I'll probably sell it. Once I find a wooden crate I might ship it... **** thing is so heavy i don't trust a box lol 32mm of xmax though

 
Should get loud and kill the lows. Although not everyone appreciates XBL^2 subs since they don't have as much native distortion as most other drivers. A lot of people feel split gap subs "lack something," generally that something is described as punchiness. Depending on how difficult it would be for you to throw in and test it's definitely worth giving a shot.

 
3k clamped? Might as well order a recone now.
I'm not that familiar with the subs, but they seem to be rated at 1600w rms. Is it rated properly then? I know most subs can handle nearly 2x rated if it's not eating squares or bottoming at low freq

i read about these briefly the other day and something about the split coil provides some sort of brake when they're over extended due to the inversed phase of the second coil

 
From what I recall, 1500 was the recommended power on an XXX. I had a motor I was going to build into an 18. I regret getting rid of it now but got a sweet deal for it. definitely not my intent lol especially since this thing is brand new besides marks from sitting and being moved. if that's their real rms rating then id be better off running one 15 instead of this 12 so ill look out for trades

These have been highly sought after since I've been in to car audio in 04-05. Throw 1500-2k at it in the proper enclosure and see how you like it. I don't think 2k will hurt it...just be careful and see what its comfortable with before going all out. It should do you good if you're looking for "SQL".

The problem is that I'm worried it won't be enough, I've been planning on either 2 12s or 1 15 for a while in about 5 cubes so I'm wondering if 1 12 in 3 cubes would be enough.

this is going from 2 shallow 12's, which obviously don't put out a lot but with cabin gain i get pretty loud

Only one way to find out... If you like the XXX, you could possibly locate another for a sick setup later on. Pretty sure it will outshine 2 shallows by itself if its half the woofer its made out to be.
