Alot of that graph is due to the lovely thing known as cabin gain. The Q is 83dbs' effecient, with no power compression that's good for 112db's at any frequency not effected by box or cabin gain. It reaches that level at 70hz, which is where cabin gain is usually good for a few decibels. Power compression accounts for a good part of the 106 reading at 80hz. The sub does what it's supposed to do, the issue is simply too much lowend due to cabin gain. Pulling the polyfill out of the box will cut back some of the lowend on the driver and should help give him the sound he wants.i had the same drop off issue with my Q
that would make is much worse, 40Hz is probably not where hes having issues, and a 10" only give you less upper bass because it has less displacement & sensitivity.Yea I say down size to a 10 and do a ported box tuned to like 40hz.
I don't think the inductance i affecting the response he is talking about, usually inductance really comes into play when you talk about 200-300-400 Hz. Its important for pro audio woofers because they are used up there for midbass, This guy needs more kick in the chest, that's 50-60-70Hz territory, you would have to have a massive amount of inductance to affect that range.upper bass response mostly dictated by inducatance. For a relatively small box sub with low inducantance I'd try a AE AV12 http://www.aespeakers.com. They can play up to 2k on axis, due to their stupidly low inductance, lower than most high end midranges. Another good choice would be a exodus audio shiva. They also use faraday rings to keep inducantance low. Both will give good results in small boxes and should play as high as you need. I'd lean toward the AV12 as I think it will handle the power a bit better, and the extra effeciency will help slightly at 80hz. One thing to consider is you may simply have a node in your car where your getting cancellation in that region. Try moving your head, check the back seat, etc and see if the sub actually produces alot more upper midbass than you think, you simply dont' hear it setting where you are. If it's a cancellation issue changing subs wont' help. You may also find switching you sub out of phase with your mids might help too.
