Wanted to get some oppinions about how people on these forums best appreciate music to the fullest.....
That's an oddly worded question, i'll try and explain.
Do you feel you enjoy and absorb music to it's fullest potential on....
1) a home stereo or headphones, which usually place an emphasis on a very flat, very true reproduction of the recorded material?
2) on a car stereo, which usually has an emphasis on certain frequency ranges, and while usually much more 'exciting' to listen to, are anything but lossless to what was emphasized on the original recording?
The reason i ask is this... I've noticed over the years that you could put a cd that you've listened to 100's of times before at home in your car stereo, and hear basslines/beats/other 'stuff' that you've never noticed before. Sometimes i feel it's enlightening because you'd never even notice on a home stereo or headphones, but sometimes it almost seems distracting to the actual song itself...
The best example i can think of is Nine Inch Nails' "the downward spiral." when i listen to this cd in the car, i notice all kinds of crazy things that are going on in the bassline, sometimes the midbass beat and the subbass beat are completely different, where the actual subbass beat that 'hits' you will be off-beat (purposely) where the audible midbass beat is just a plain-jane rock beat, and other such oddities. But i always catch myself getting more rapped up into paying attention to things like that than the song itself..... Maybe i'm just ADD, but i wanted to get some opinions.
And while i can put on a song that i already know and love, and it becomes a hell of a lot more 'exciting' in the car, with the bass blasting, it seems that cd's that i hear FIRST in the car, i have a lot less chance of really getting into, it's more just a 'car cd' rather than a cd that really grows on me, and i get attached to.. If anyone knows what i mean.
You definitely hear different things in the car then you do at home, but it's definitely a different listening experience altogether, and was just interested to see how everyone else best likes to enjoy their tunes.......
