I recently purchased a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. I think it has the 'premium sound system'. Nothing you guys would get excited about, but better than what I had in my last several cars. I think the speakers are Infinity, but be that as it may, it could do with a bit more umpf in the back. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a pair of speakers that would fit in the standard cutouts as well as an amp to boost them a little. Or should I just put an amp behind the standard speaks? I am mostly after a more balanced sound stage. I've never had a van before, and in this one all the sound seems to come from the front - unless I put the fader almost completely to the rear, in which case there in not much sound left at all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
As an alternative, I have a pair of MacAudio ML-2315 in the basement, together with a MacAudio MP-120 amp. This gear is from my first car in Germany, a Fiat Uno - much smaller car than today, but MUCH bigger sound! I brought some of the car stereo system to OH when I moved, but have never used it here. The stuff is old (1980s) but it's pretty serious gear - or at least that's what I used to think - 20cm (about 8") woofers in a 3-way speaker system, and 130 vintage watts in the amp. Not so easy to fit in the van though, and kids might smear ice cream all over it when they sit in the back - not something I had to worry about 20 years ago. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Should I even consider reviving this old stuff, or can I buy something better that fits in the standard cutouts? I am not averse to buying used.
Many thanks
Frank
