Alright, I'm a lil new to car audio, and i'm trying to figure something out. If I want to get better, clearer more full bass, would it be better for me to get a better sub (i'm running mtx 10") or a better amp--i have a 200 watt two channel bridgeable profile (laugh if you will) amp.

Definetely a new amp. You're only giving it approximately 100-125 watts RMS, which isn't a lot. I suggest buying a more powerful amp with a new sub that will match it.

I agree with saturnscott. get a new and more powerfull (keep in mind that RMS is more important) amp. even a cheap sub will sound good with enough power and the right box.

You have several options:

1) MTX is not a bad sub, 10" will deliver tight accurate bass, I'm not sure which model you have, but you are probably underpowering it. A bigger amp will probably help. If you have the 6000 or 8000, you should be able to get some decent bass out of it.

2) If your looking for SQ, with good SPL, you might want to check into a bigger sub or multiple subs. Alpine, Infinity, and JL Audio are some of the more affordable subs, although the MTX 6000, 8000 series are capable of decent SQ and SPL. So adding another MTX 10" would help out somewhat, but you run into the bigger amp problem again.

3) A 12" sub will give you deeper bass, than will a 10", including more SPL, but 2-10's most likely will produce more SPL than will one 12"

Your amp isn't a bad amp, but it's not a quality amp either. You will definitely need a new amp to achieve what you want.

If you are interested in new equipment, how much do you want to spend, we can give you suggestions and places where you can find good deals.

it's me again (the guy who started the thread w/ the question). Just thought that I would add that i have a sealed Q logic box....i know that might make a difference.

Also, i have another question...as far as longer term, what would a good amp be (as far as power, brand, etc.) if in the future i might add a second 10? For now i'm just gonna run one, but what amp would be okay for one sub now and maybe two 10's in the future? thanks for the help....
