Best way to wire this combo?

I have an crunch pzi 3000.1d and an hifonics atlas as12sq. The sub is 1800 max 900 rms 2 ohm dvc.

The amp specs are PowerZone Series 1-Channel Class D Car Amplifier • 750W x 1 chan. @ 4 ohms • 1500W x 1 chan. @ 2 ohms • 3000W x 1 chan. @ 1 ohm Max

I currently have it running at 1 ohm but I feel like I could be powering the sub better. I also have an zr240 thats said to put out 600w rms laying around if that may be a better option amp wise.

I tend to get confused about how many watts are best for a sub to get the most power out of it.

Always go by the rms power rating, not the max. If it's only one sub, wire it in series for a 4ohm load. That would give you 750 rms and match the 900w sub the best. You're giving that thing too much juice at 1 or even 2 ohm.

Also, to find my correct gain, would I be using the sqrt of 1500x4 or 750x4?

I went ahead and went by 1500. Im not sure if thats the wattage to go by so I only played it for a few seconds. My concern is that the 77.Xx number i got is about 4/5:00, almost all the way up. I noticed theres very little movement in the sub until I turn the Bass Eq knob up a couple db.

Yeah its wired from pos to neg, then the remaining coils straight to the amp. I dont believe my amp is bridgeable. But the terminals are positioned as - - + + and theyre going to the first of each.

Correct. And no excursion without the Bass Eq knob up and the headunit(05 300c nav) bass turned up. The sub isnt even close to its full potential. Gain is set to 53-54. Would it hurt to turn the gain up if I know the sub isnt even getting near the power it could handle?

I think im going to try the zr240 with it tomorrow and see how that goes.

Do you have to max the bass boost and Hu bass? You could prolly push the gain up more, but at some point you'll get distortion. Are you setting the gain with the volume 3/4 full and all filters, loudness off and eq flat?
