Best way to splice together speaker wire?

I need to splice together either 12-12 or 12-14 gauge speaker wire. I can not find a butt connector online that will work. I also could not find any shrink wrap for that gauge. If you think I should solder and shrink wrap could you recommend the mm needed and a good gun because mine *****. It will not even let me tin wire together correctly!

I believe for 12 guage, its like 4-6mm^2 shrink. And for the gun, I have a few extras if you want one. I got them from college during my electronics courses and they have worked well. The one I have is a 25W/120V straight gun if you are interested. Just pay for shipping is all cause I don't use it anymore....I have 3 of them, lol. It's jsut the gun though, no solder or anything.

Solder and heat shrink the best way to go
