What is the best way to prep the surface for applying some deadening mat?

I gave it a washdown with regular floor cleaner like mr clean or somethin and it worked great, as long as you get any dust or particles out so you have a clean surface youll be good

Use paint tinner, and clean the tinner off with watter i reconmend distilled because it does'nt have calcium and shit and could cause rust

Which product? True butyl-based mat doesn't need a lot of prep...maybe a good once over, if that.

If it's dirty, then Simple Green or soap and water. But, I suppose it depends what's on the surface and if you need to cut it with a solvent or not.

Yeah my professional shops use that, They said it takes alit of grit and grim and takes a asmall layer off the paint so its fresh paint, they just told me not to use a metal brush or something hard to scrub it with just a rag

Soap, water, denatured alcohol... If the surface isn't too dirty, then denatured alcohol only.

I was thinking about that too. Actually "NOW" is what I think I'm going to use. Shit works great for bugs and tar on the front bumper when I wash.

Naw, I always use large trash bags and cover my trunk for the bodies.

But I see your point and appreciate the suggestion All in all, thinner might not be a bad idea for the for the spare tire tub.
