Best sub for my application?

I'd port it based on your music tastes. What do you play the most in your car?
It varies. I play 80% death metal, power metal, etc. so there will be a lot of double bass so clarity and separation are key. The other 20% ranges from Pink Floyd to Lil Scrappy, etc, haha.

then I would say sealed. It tends to do very well on double bass from what I've used.

Honestly, I favor sealed in this case. I listened to alot of hard rock like the haunted etc., as well as silverstien and senses fail when I had my S.i. mag. It was ported and sounded pretty good on the double kick drums, but would fall behind as I'd play through a complete song, but then again that is possibly one of the better sounding subs people will get to hear. I switched it over to sealed right before I sold it and it was still amazing. It sounded better on every song i listened to, it just didnt vibrate my eyes and throat like ported did.

Also, the Fi Q lacks in the upper fs range when ported low from my 10-12 experiences with them. Anything from 55 hz above seems to really fade out.

I vote sealed.

Thanks, rollerdj.

Thanks for your input. What was the Fi Q crossover'd at in your experience?

Would a Diamond Audio D3 1000.1 be adequate when driven at 1 ohm?

That D3 would be plenty, I've seen them run on 400 rms daily and still play adequately to complement the front stage. A few of the ones I've had demo'd were in pure sq systems, and the mid bass was turned down signifigantly just so I could listen to the substage.

By the way, what is your budget for your amp? Maybe we can point you in the right direction to save you a little money

I'd like to not have to spend more than $300 on an amp. I see that 1000 watts are recommended for that particular sub.

Well, if you'd like you can buy it new for only $249 + shipping and be covered with a warranty. I'd steer clear of hifonics seeing as other amps will fit your budget and give much better quality. I'm not bashing hifonics, i'm just a do it right the first time kinda guy.

You can get the D2 Fi Q and run the AQ 1200 at 1 ohm
