Similar to car audio, there is no best. It's based on preferential performance and size available for box.

You basically choose for what application you're looking for. There is not a single best subwoofer.

I would go with a Shiva-X if you are looking for a 12 or the maelstrom if you want to rip your house off of it's foundation.

I have a Shiva-X in a 4.6 net cubic foot box tuned to 16 hz and it is incredible, powered by an O-Audio 500w plate amp.

i knbow, cause i'm getting an ed lt/1300 and it doersn't have a ssf on it

I would advise against having no SSF in HT unless you're running sealed. Even mine tuned to 16 hz bottomed out occasionally with SSf set to 16hz, so I now have it set to 20 hz and don't have that problem anymore.
