best sub 5" and under mounting depth

You can fit two 8's in that .6cf enclosure, and it'll bump pretty good. And for about the same price the RE SL shallow mount would be a good bet too. The excursion is extremely good for a shallow mount, and from what little bit I'v read on it, no bad experience has been reported. The only place I've been able to find it online though, is ebay.

Josh u have the 04 dakota right? What are u running again and are u satisfied?

Can the re sl handle 500watts rms daily? I don't remember the specs of them

I have two eD e3.8 8" subs running on eD's 2ch 400 watt amp. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_21&products_id=785 They're getting 200 watts each, my enclosure is sealed, and right at .6cf. I've had them for almost a year and been pretty happy, the bass response is real tight and punchy, not all BOOM. They can handle 500 watts combined between the two, mine could use a little more power because the amp distorts just before they're mechanically maxed (or bottom out), it wouldn't happen in a vented enclosure I don't have the space for one. The RE SL subs are rated 350 watts, they only come in dual 4-ohm rating so you can only wire them to draw either 2ohm or 8ohm off the amp. Whether the RE SL can handle 500 watt or not... just keep the gain turn down low and not push the sub too hard and you'll be fine. Lately I been thinking about trying out the RE SL 12" but I'd have to get a different amp. Theres only one video I can find on youtube of the SL, check out the excursion after the 2:10 mark.

I'm pretty sure it can dig deeper than most other shallow mounts.

So what amp should I get to push 2 re sl 12s? I have two .6 cubic foot boxes for them, sealed.

The reason I asked if they could take 500 apeice was cuz the aq1200d looked good. 1000watts for 220$. I have a rf p400-4 but 200 wouldn't be anywhere near good enough for 350 watt sub

the re sl's are ridiculous as far as price.

$420 for 2, which may not sound terrible, but when i can get 2 RF p3s for half that price, ill take the sub par sound.

Not to mention the Polks MM's are 230 shipped for 2.
you know i talked with crutchfield again and one guy suggested the polk mm1040, and after now looking at the specs it looks nice. im not a fan of polk, because i have a friend who has the momo versions (competition) 10s and they sound like garbage. but i assume its his install.

anyways, with 25.4mm of xmax, 350w rms, i would think this thing will bump.

but another crutchfield guy, said the jl 10w1 would be best.

so agian another delima ahhh

Where did you see that the Polk mm series drivers have 25mm of Xmax (one-way linear excursion)?

polk's website, says it has 1 inch of xmax. 1 inch is 25.4mm.

http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/mm/specs.php#single

also, sonic electronix website says it has 25mm

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_14755_Polk+Audio+MM1040.html

91db, 350rms, 25mm xmax.

i have only heard one bad setup in real life, and they were polk momo competition models, but these polks look great for me at least.

I think Polk means "linear" on their web site literally and is rating them for total linear throw, which drops one-way linear travel to 12.7mm. Still good for a pretty shallow 12.
thanks for clearing that up. 12.7 isnt crazy, but my other option was a jlw1 which only has 10, so 2.7 more xmax and more rms should be better output. or at least i hope.

Theirs other variables to consider than just strait xmax, but it usually means that the more linear xmax you have, the deeper the subwoofer can dig into those lower bass notes.

I was real skeptical about the 25mm xmax rating for those subs. The Polk SR series which is their higher end SPL subs, were rated 16mm.

ya i figured something was up, but i figured if they were claiming 25mm it would be more than my other option of a jl w1 with 10mm xmax, less rms.

i guess we will see how they do, maybe the jlw1 be better, but as long as i like it, i guess thats what matters.
