Best SQ sub in sealed config

Hi, I currently have the Pioneer champion pro tsw3002d2 running off a BRZ1200.1D but am not happy with the sound. I'm using a prefab pioneer box that belonged to another sub cause the volume matched this subs requirement.

I don't know anything about building a ported box and theres no one in Kuwait i trust to make a ported box (based on any proper calculations anyway).

Hence I want a good sq sub that I can build a sealed box for myself. Something under $300 would be great.

I think I'll go with the IDQ, It has amazing reviews all over. If I am not satisfied I can just add another one. What is the RMS rating or what can it handle? I actually have the BRZ1700 which does 600@2OHM or 1200@4ohm.

You got that backwards my man. Does 1200 @ 2 and 600 @ 4. The rating is for 750 on that sub.... I'd get a dual 4 and run it at 2 with that amp. Watch your gains (maybe get a dmm) and it'll leave you some headroom if you want to get another one later on and run them at 1 ohm. Good choice btw. The IDQ's are nice subs.

Agree the IDQ wont dissapoint you. I would think about upgrading to a little nicer amp if you are looking for straight SQ. The brz will put out the wattage but arent what I would call "clean" amps. This is just a future suggestion as it may fit the bill just right when you get it all hooked up.

Op if your looking for SQ, your gona spend a nice penny for it... A good well designed box with nice to decent equipment will be good enough. Also have a sq guy tune it also for you..

I just bought the BRZ and since I live in Kuwait and had to have it mailed to a friend's APO, I don't think I can change my Amp anytime soon.

I wanted something that performs well sealed so that I could build the box myself. Unfortunately Kuwait doesn't have any SQ guys. Market has no comps available. Shops advise customers to buy sony car audio products and so on. I know more than any of the shops around here while knowing very little compared to you guys. I read and learn. Thank you.

For sealed subwoofer, I prefer 12 inch subwoofers as they fit fine in most cars and they can usually give you meatier bass sound with less effort than a 10 inch subwoofer. Box qtc is the most important parameter for sealed subs. This is something that WinISD can calculate for you. A lot of subwoofers aren't that great for SQ as their box qtc in a "reasonable" box size can easily be close to 1 (should be close to 0.7, 0.6-0.8 is about perfect). If you can buy Image Dynamics IDQ12v3, it could work out pretty well in something like 1 to 1.2 cu ft box (the 12 model). I have been pretty happy with Infinity Kappa 120.9w. Again, box qtc is fine for box size 1 to 1.2cu ft. I can't really think of its faults. It blends very well with the front, which is what I care about. The IDQ has more power handling, so it's probably a better subwoofer if you want to run >500watts RMS to it. The Kappa's range should be around 250-500watts RMS. A similar subwoofer to IDQ v3 is Arc Audio "Arc12" subwoofer. It is based on IDQv2, but has stronger motor with more linear stroke. I always heard from people who have heard IDQ v2 and v3, that the v2 had better SQ (but they're not made any more). The Arc 12 needs a bigger box, maybe 1.4 or a 1 cu ft stuffed with polyfill.

Increase your budget, and get a Morel Supremo 12.

Did you mean Morel Ultimo? These do sound good, reportedly better than IDQ.. but the massive 5 inch voice coil needs like 1000watts of power to get moving and they cost a lot too. I thought supremo is the name of speaker line.

the ultimo only needs 800w, 1000w made it stand out in my truck 2 12s in .8cubes each on an arc audio se2300 at 2ohm mono and they were perfect the arc was set for about 1600wrms when i had then up a little more they would over power the front stage.

and u you always step down to the ultimo sc same box size and only needs 600w to get it moving properly

My bad, typed that wrong. Thanks for the advice.JBL MS62C for front stage. IDQ sub. All thats left is rear fill.
How do you like those components? Have heard nothing but good about them.

And do you want sealed for SQ, or just because you don't think you can build a ported box? Either way, if you're looking for good output as well, you can also take a look into passive radiators. From my understanding they have the output of ported with d@mn near the SQ of sealed. Only downfall is price and size compared to sealed. I have never personally heard one though.

Thanks for the info, I found an Arc12 v3. Is that the one you are referring to or is that same as the IDQ12v3?

Those cost more than 3 IDQ12. Very big increase in budget which I cannot do unfortunately.

I haven't got the comps yet. The reviews are very good. Will get them by the second week of Nov. For the sub, I want sealed just because I don't think i can build a ported box. Is there a Passive radiator available for the IDQ12?
