Best SQ Setup

I have a 1997 Toyota 4runner and I am just getting into car audio. I have a Fosgate Punch 360a2 amp (probably pushing 400 watts rms). I currently have 2 10 inch JBL GTO1004D subs. I just got these about 2 weeks ago, and they have much more bass than I was wanting. I listen to country/rock/alternative music. I am debating between 2 8's, 1 10, or 1 12. I keep the 2 10's turned nearly all the way down, I am not a big bass head. Which size would be best? Also, can you recommend a good sub for SQ? I also need an enclosure (can not build one myself). I have about $200 to spend. Thanks for any suggestions on this setup.

if two tens is too much bass spend your 200 and a set of 3 way components with a 6.5 or 7" woofer and use the RF 360 on them this will give you the most SQ. a good set of components will play pretty low.

Or a single 8" sub posssibly sealed to give you extension into subbass, just in case someone wants to play some cannon type of music on it.

You can get a JL W7 8" for about 200 sometimes of you look around.

check out the DIYMA 12" if they have any in stock still, great SQ super light moving mass and plenty of BL.

I am leaning towards 2 8 inch Kicker CVR's. My problem is finding a good box for the dual eights. I have found one box I really like, but it is 100 bucks (shipped). Is a cube box or one with an angled front (or back or both) more efficient? Remember, I need a sub and box all for about $200. Thanks for any input.

just use what you have but turned down. unless you wanna gain trunk space back.

i'd use a single ten if you want a single sub setup.

The SQ just isnt there with the JBL's because I am running them so low. What do you all think about the Image Dynamics subs for SQ? I am looking at either a single 10 or 12. Would those be a lot better for SQ than Kicker or JBL? Thanks.

imo yes. image makes nice subs, very great sq on all their models.

x2 I have been doing some research over on diyma and there are people over there that have used the JBL`s and they are considered a SQ sub very much,I`m in the process of picking up a 10" now.

your install is at fault....

JBL subs are VERY decent with SQ....in fact Team JBL has OWNED the

International Sound Quality Competitions for 7 years strait undefeated

with the GTI subs...I have built hundreds of JBL enclosures and they

slay when done right

I got 2 JBL W10gti's in my install that would blow your mind...stupid tight and detailed

I agree the GTi's are impressive subs. They are probably what Id buy today if I were in the market for new drivers.
