I have been looking into Rainbows, Morels, and Seas Lotus.. But I am still not sure which one would have the best sound. I am looking for a lot of detail in the highs and some nice midbass, I will be listening to a lot of trance so I want some speakers that will make the vocals sound crystal clear even at high volumes. I really don't want to drop more than $1k on a set but if you know of something a little more expensive that is much better let me know.

U dont have to spent $1k on a great set of components, with the right install and power alot of the cheaper components can sound very nice. Also If ur actually plannin to spend that much on the speakers u better be gettin a high quality amp to power them too.

active or passive? 2 way up front or 3 way up front?

shoot with $1000 going active, you can probably get the some really nice drivers. but we need to know how you are planning on installing the speakers.

For that price you have alot of choices. Polk's SR6500 sound fantastic. I presonally have the Zapco C2K series and they are the best Comps I have ever heard. Actually when tested in CA&E the reviewer (Eric Holdaway) said the were in the top 5 speakers he had ever tested. That is saying alot, and I would agree with him. Matter of fact i have an extra set i just bought if your interested. They retail for almost $1200 and on Woofers.ect they are about $600 shipped. (mine are less if interested) If you are local you can listen to my car to decide for yourself.

Where in CA are you? Maybe your local to me. . .

My vote is for the Focal K2P's. They run right about the 1K mark I believe. The sound is incredible and the midrange can take a beating. I know on ebay they have some good sets of the Focal Utopia's for under 300.

i have image dynamics cd2 horns for sale pair them with the idq-6's and my nice us amps us-xr2 x-over and you have a sweet crisp prolly one of the best sounding componets up front. if your looking for a nice amp up front as well i have a us amps 4360 class a tube amp which will make the components that much sweeter. if your intrested in any of this let me know. im sure people will voutch for how well these horns sound. and the horns get really loud.

i also use CD2's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but for an out of the box solution, maybe take a look at morel or dynaudios passive 3 way components.
