I really hate stereotyping woofers as if they should be classified. They all do the same thing. Move air Some do it better than others. It is all dependant on the installation in question....

actually Stephen Ponte said that. but there are motor's designed for SPL and motors designed for Sq. SPL motor's like the 9500 series, and the CSX.

Do you honestly have any clue about the fundamentals of loudspeakers?

Traditional subwoofers are nothing more than glorified electromagnets. When a positive voltage is applied, the cone is forced in one direction. When a negative voltage is applied to it, the cone is driven in the oppisite direction. The sole purpose of such a woofer is to move air, thus creating sound waves. Now, as soon as you show me a driver that is smarter than this, then you can tell me what an 'sq' driver and what an 'spl' driver is. As far as I know, they are all still just plain old transducers.

If you'd been around sound quality as long as I have, you would realize that all too often, too much importance is placed on this woofer vs that woofer. With a little know how, and some good old fashioned hard work, you can make nearly ANY driver perform. If you care to dispute this, go right ahead. But it will be falling on deaf ears...

First of all, I am far from a newbie. And why would I send you a 800 dollar woofer? I dont even have one myself. You are sitting here and telling me there is no classification for woofers and you are wrong. Some are better than others at a SQ and SPL ratio. And without altering the driver itself, there is only so much you can do with box, install, knowledge, and everything else. Take a tone burst ONLY woofer and take it to a SQ competition. When you rank when there is a significant ammount of competitors, then you can tell me im wrong. untill then, you are doign nothing but blabing on with no factual evidence.

Matt, I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you on this...

When I first heard about it, I thought Koreans were crazy, but a few people told me what Jeremy and Jlaine's trying to say. As a newbie, I just couldn't believe it, so I found the shop that did it to have a listen. After 5 mins, I was convinced...

Now, the same guy has a treo CSX in his daily, and suprisingly, the bass isn't overwhelming. Yeah, it's boomy and not as accurate to me, but it was much better than a lot of other systems I heard. The equaliser was the main facotr, in this case. He had like a 30 or 40 band equaliser, and man, were the levers uneven.

Of course, he didn't win the comps with the CSX, but he made a commendable third in his class. I say that's good enough.
