Best Speaker OPINIONS

Personally, I'd go with the new Alpine type X pros.
Alpine SPX-17PRO

$350

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10648_Alpine+SPX-17PRO.html

They are direct dirivitives of the Scan Speak Revelator line:

They use a moded version of this woofer:

18W/4531G 7" Revelator 4 ohm

$232 each

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45_228_256&products_id=929

The modifications appear to be made around improved ruggedization

and moisture tolerance.

And what appears to be a direct reapplication of

this $400 each ring tweeter.

R2904/7000-05 $398 each

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45_229_270_324&products_id=1580

Then they top it all off with what appear to be high

quality, and super flexible passive crossovers. If these

sound bad, your not doin it right.
Man I hate to tell you, but as nice as Pro's are, they have nothing to do with the the Scan Speak Revelator . The tweeters and the mids are alpine's design not Revelator . If you want Scan Speak Revelator from Alpine you have to look at the F1 line. Now those Scan Rev based. The Revelator motor technology is what makes the them so good.

And guys he said the best. We all know that install is King, but if install is equal, the list I post is some to the best car base driver money can buy. Do I think they are worth the crazy asking price, THAT WOULD BE A HELL NO!, but who pays retail cost for anything in Car Audio. But if you want the best you can to pay for it. Can you get equal sound by going with the raw driver from Scan, Peerless, vifa, Seas ect..... I would have to say Yes, but 90% of the Car Audio based driver under 500 bux WILL NOT be able to touch anything on that list. The Pioneer PRS are one of the few that have measure great and sound great.

also someone said something about scanspeak. great stuff there. Check out Alpines F#1 Status if you can find it. I believe they are all scanspeak drivers.

But coloration courtesy of Alpine. I had a few sets and I wouldnt immediately compare them to the actual Revs...

Personaly I'm in love with my Hertz Mille MLK 165 wich I am running active. I listen mostly to Trance: Dj Tiesto; However I also enjoy Jazz, Classical, Old Classics such as Frank Sinatra and the sound reproduced by these speakers is incredible.

Glad to hear it... I just bought a pair of HERTZ MLK 165 Mille. I will be running them off a JL HD 600/4

When I see that some of you are running these speakers active.... and I see no active xover in your equipment list... are you using the xover on the amps?

I don't see how you can do both low pass and high pass on the mids... how are you doing this?

I got on Hertz website and answered my own question... seems as though they allow for bi amping through the passive xovers... that is not active, just bi-amped.

Very good choice. Have fun with them the ML28/Space 1 tweeter that is in that set is just an amazing tweeter.

What did Zaph say again, that the 12M is worth about $25-30 based on his objective testing?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

One man will change modern-day car audio more than any anyone and he goes by the name Dr Buwalda. No, I'm not a HAT guy or a Hybrid fanboy, but you have to give credit where credit is due. And no, you cannot hear a faraday ring. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I would have to agree with both statments. Scott is has made a big impact on the Car Audio Scene and you can't hear a Faraday ring. I don't care has a speaker measure, if its sounds good its sounds good and the Hybrid Audio Drivers sound great, Faraday ring or not. You can't debate with results.

And what's very nice for us is that they don't need a lot of special treatment to sound great. Very 'plug and play' capable. I feel confident in saying this after using four of the Legatia series drivers.

Another great 'out of the box' option is Rainbow, IME.

that is probably theeeeeee most important part of selecting a "high end speaker" back in the day people used to put mb quart or other hind end speaker grills over elcheapo speakers and you would be suprised at peoples reaction just because what the grill said on it LOL same car same speakers different grills and it went from sounding shitty to "WoW man!"
