Perfect Components sounding not as good

well I have had a set of 6 1/2 Infinity Perfect Components for the fronts for a long time. They are powered by a PPI PCX480 amp putting about 80 into each. They seemed to have used to sound better, but know are getting quite harsh and more muddy?? Some songs still sound fantastic, but I have noticed mainly with rock music with screaming vocals and distorted guitar they do not do well. If I put the midrange really down on my pioneer premier deck it helps. It I put the mid setting up too much they sound horrible!!! My question is a few...

1.) Do you think its the speakers

2.) My amp has been shutting off after 15 minutes at full tilt so do you think there is a problem with the amp sending dirtier power?

3.) Can you recommend an amazing set of comps that handle and display midrange with beauty and are not so harsh

thanks

1. Does it sound raspy?

2. Sounds like your clipping your amp. Turn the gains down.

If you are having problems with the amp, and it seems like that is the only thing that has changed since the Perfects sounded great then definitely get tthat looked at and taken care of first. Check your connections everywhere also.

it does sound a little raspy, but mainly just a screechy unclean loud. Don't get me wrong, they still sound good, but hard rock at loud levels is where I get the problems. I'll check the gains, but how do I know if its "clipping"???? The amp is like a frying pan when it turns off so I am sure its an overheating issue. I am not sure if there is a fan or not. I looked it up and it says some of that model number have a fan and some don't (weird, I know). What do you think about attaching a fan next to amp to blow on it??? would that work?

The heatsink is internal, an external fan would probably do very little. You need to listen and hear if the fan is running.
the fan is not running //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif so a fan blowing into the vents on the amp would not fix the problem???

you are describing how speaker begin to sound as the voice coils are slowly cooked over time. Could also just be your perception of how it sounds. If the amp is overheating put it in a well ventilated area and turn the gain down to see if this corrects the problem. If this does not solve the problem then something maybe be shorting out also causing the speakers to sound bad

so maybe the speakers are getting old yoour saying?? They are 5 years old. Also when you say something may be shorting out, do you mean in the amp and what would be shorting out? thanks
