Best single subsetup for SPL

The future = meter at the headrest.... IMO nothing else really matters.

And in that event, you won't see many 50hz+ notes doing great numbers.
Sorry if we aren't on the same page here...but I think this is a good point for discussion- from what I understand (just by reading what you said here), you think everyone will eventually change to reading at the headrest?
I don't think that's really feasible for something like dB Drag...

i think where they get popular is the fact that for a good 370-500 bucks you can get a sub/box that can pull a 150ish type score on 1000-2000 watts of power. granted it may be in a different org and my only pull 147ish type scores in db drag but in alot of the vehicles that is a better score at about 1/2 the cost. if spkrman can get it tweeked to run a 150 or better in db drag imo he wouldnt have anything more to prove (i already kno he is doing it and very competitive in another org for me that is enough) but doing it in both orgs expands on what people want. a few of the cars i know of around here spent 2-3 times as much at least just "hitting a 147-150" figure in 2 grand for amps 500-800 per woofer and probably 400-500 hundred for the box.
Exactly... the boxes are ALOT louder than the typical "daily driver" box, and they sound really really good.

My bux, a single type R, anything above 400 watts... and you just broke a 140. How many people on this forum have done that with such little equipment? Throw more power and get louder and louder... thats just how it works.

Or perhaps paying more and getting less is more fun?

DBdrag can do what they do, MECA already has a growing following of Reality competitors. People that build SPECIFICALLY for the headrest... and people that build SPECIFICALLY for driveby.

IMO the headrest is just the next logical step in meter placement, thats the TRUE meter of a systems capability.

I'm going to see if maybe next season we can do a MECA show or 2 to see if anyone would be interested....MECA tried a show I think either last season or the year before but it was ran so poorly...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

and again, i'll agree to that...BUT, his results might very well be different then someone elses. if the type r is the only sub to get, then ALL competitors in ALL organizations would run them.

they are working great in his application, sweet. he's knocking down good scores with them compared to other subs, even better. but to preach that they are the only sub to have, and to do it here where bandwagoning is beyond rampant, isn't the truth. like i mentioned above, way too many varibles for that one simple fact to be true. there is no end all subwoofer.

btw, our local alpine dealer has the 05's ON SALE for $200 a piece for 12's. he said the msrp is more around $300. so unless u can find an online authorized dealer, they really aren't what i'd consider budget subs. true, u can get them cheaper online. and i guess that's where the advantage comes in...lol..u can buy two for the price of one and have a spare when the n0obs around here think they can throw 2kwrms at them daily and they start popping like ballons. in spkrman's case, he's got enough knowledge to do that, but the n0obs clinging to his every last word more then likely do not.

i don't think he quite means its the end all be all as I'm sure alot of other speakers when put in a box specifically designed to take advantage of the subs characteristics to perform at its very best or near to it would do very well too. i have talked to him some and the way i take him is he can do this with a cheaper driver and it makes him no worse than real competitive in his classes. from what i seen he does higher #'s with type s but it doesnt make for a good daily driver set up. is the capability of doing a high to mid 140's worth what he charges? i think so if you are on a tight budget between 1 type r a tcab box and a 1000 watt amp you are right up there with systems that cost alot more (especially at net prices). imho it isnt the end all be all but a VERY nice option to go with especially if you want to compete.you also have to remember the rules he goes by in comp are different to as compared to what me and you are used to.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif people in meca and db drag are both competive and somewhat regionalized so if you want to measure effectiveness i would look at more what he does vs his competition rather than what he "might" do vs another league. its ok to disagree but i think its also important to understand it for what it is.

THe boxes aren't "standard". Watch the vids on the site, they are a different design than what you normally see in a ported box, and they work a hell of alot better than the "typical" ported box. SQ AND SPL are both improved by design.
Excuse me for not needing some oddball alignment to work well.

Would it sound better to you if it were the magic "TCB" box with 40 feet of port that gets exponentially bigger then halves in size until it comes out at the exact square of the area of the sub? Would you then be satisfied that its just flat out louder and cleaner than nearly any other box out there, period?
i think you're misunderstanding me here. i'm not saying your overcharging, i don't know. i don't know what ur boxes take to design and build. ur boxes and this is what i was trying to explain to the guy, could very well be worth the price.

the reference to the ABC or TL is just that, a reference. i knwo they take more time to design and build then a standard ported box. that's all i was trying to say.

chill out a minute and read the post. i could care less what u charge in reality. i'm quite capable of making my own enclsoures. imo, $250 is too high for a standard box, if ur box isn't "standard" then $250 isn't too high, i guess. does that make sense now? do u see where i'm coming from? i hope so..

makes sense. i've never tried to meter at the headrest, so i'll take ur word for it. but until then, in most cases, in the kick or at the glass, 50hz+ is where it's at...

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif If I was just slappin wood together in any old fashion, while using rec'd boxes.. sure, my price would definitely be high. BUt thats very far from the case //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and agreed on the 50+hz bein where its at. Except in larger vehicles... the monte hates anything except for 48-50hz on the dash... the kick its not so picky.

Try the headrest sometime, its amazing how much your typical setup loses at the head. THrough alot of testing, I've gotten my loss down to 3db at a "relatively" high note (compared to what is typically used. Normally to get a 3db loss (kick to headrest, btw) you need a very low note, sub 40hz. Which btw, 1db loss from dash to head, but again, very un-typical.

Normally big vehicles are the ones that lose very little at the head, 2 door s10 blazer isn't big by any means lol.

$250 for a ported box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif are you putting them together with panda semen? j/c
if you buy a box from me, and you apply the "glue" with your bare hands... i'll give it a shot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Why are people b!tching about his prices? If its to high then dont get one. But personally I feel my box was worth every cent and then some. 250 dollers is a great deal for what you will get.

Geesh SnailShells are cheaper..

I don't see any difference from your enclosures compared with normal ported enclosures.

Maybe if you had some sort of folded horn design or snailshell but yours look just like every other ported enclosure. Maybe thicker walls but thats about it.

read the whole thing, not just bits and pieces....and then reread again...only one person has actually "bit(hed" about his prices and that was after your post. and i wouldn't even say that person was bit(hing....

and if u feel it's worth it, great. that's all that counts...
