Best "midpower" 12" sub for $250?

I need to get more space in my trunk and my 2 current Eclipse 87 series 12" subs keep disintegrating (surrounds, spider) and getting Eclipse to replace them has been a headache to say the least.

I'm looking for a very good single 12" driver to take place. I know output will be reduced as I've been driving around with my only functioning eclipse driver. I'm fine with that. I have a directed 400W @ 2ohm amp. It's only stable to 2 ohms so I'd like a DVC 4ohm driver. Budget is $250 and requirements are:

• Sound quality! Fast transients, clean distortion free sound. This is important to me.

• works in a small sealed enclosure. Since I'm replacing my current setup to gain trunk space, I want something that will work in a 1.5 cuft box or so.

• designed for 400-600 watts. This is what I'm working with, so I don't want something that takes 2000 watts just to vibrate the cone. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

• $250 or less.

Some brands and models I've been looking at are Resonant Engineering SE12, DigitalDesigns 2500, Alpine type R, IDmax (a bit of a stretch) and diamond D6's.

Ah, great! Even more suggestions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I take it there's no clear winner in sub choices for my requirements.

Hmm well what is the general opinion on some of the choices I already listed? Because those are drivers I know I can already easily find, either locally or at online vendors. Thanks!

Stereo Integrity BM 12" would fit the bill nicely. They sound fantastic... very punchy little drivers. I've doen an A/B with my SI Mag 12 and the sound is very similar, just a little "smaller" (less output). Can't say enough good things about the BM line.

BM is a little over bugdet, yes? Last time I checked SI's Web Site they MSRP was like $280. I haven't seen a real selling price yet, so I could be wrong. But if they really sound like the mag, then that is a good deal. My 15 is insane sometimes.

Since you mentioned build quality, the IA Lethal Injection sounds good, gets extremely loud, and will take any abuse you can give it with a laugh. I've owned 187s and LIs, and it's just insane what you can put them through.

Oops. I was thinking of the 10" BM price! My mistake //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Of course, 30 bucks over budget isn't too bad for a woofer like the BM, IMHO.

All a matter of preference. If I could get the output I'd run a $75 Aura 10 all day long in place of my... >$75... Mag. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
