If your talking about the plastic/cardboard panel that goes over the door, just slap some sheet-deadener over it instead of the paint-on stuff. I think The liquid is better for stopping the vibration of the metal of the door while the sheets are better for blocking the waves. Will someone please correct me if I'm wrong?
You are wrong.
Though I'm not an expert (like Rick & Ant are), I can go over the basics real quick;
There are two basic types of sound deadening; Mass loading and Barrier loading. Mass loading adds mass (weight) to the panel to reduce vibrations, barrier loading is used to actually absorb and block soundwaves.
Types of mass loading deadeners would be mats like Raammat, Dynomat Extreme, Peel n Seal, etc etc and the liquid deadeners like eDead, Spectrum. Barrier loading materials are your open cell foams and such like Ensolite and egg crate foam.
So, simple logic should take over here and tell us that if we want to reduce vibrations of the panel, we would not want to use barrier loading products like Ensolite. And if we want to absorb sound waves, we should not use mass loading products like Raammat.
Also, liquid deadeners are supposed to have better barrier loading characteristics than mat type materials. But most liquid deadener's main purposes are to mass load the panels.
Keep in mind that this is not all-inclusive; there are multiple ways to go about doing certain things.
